The Queen is currently gearing up to deliver her annual speech on Christmas Day, but two royals may not be so keen on tuning in.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family last year and a new book claims Her Majesty’s festive snub was the last straw for the couple.
In his book Brothers and Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, Christopher Anderson claims the Sussexes quit the family after the Queen removed a photograph of them and baby Archie from the desk next to her ahead of her 2019 Christmas speech.
A source claimed that the Queen ordered an aide to remove the photo, stating: “I suppose we don’t need that one.”
According to the book, a source said the Queen “looked over the tables where the photographs she had so lovingly selected were arranged.”
She then allegedly stated that all of the photographs were fine to stay, apart from the one of the Sussexes.
The framed photo was promptly shifted out of shot.
Harry broke royal tradition in December 2019 by spending Christmas in Canada with Meghan and her mum Doria Ragland, instead of attending the Sandringham House Christmas banquet.
In response to her grandson’s snub, the monarch, now 95, removed his picture in retaliation, the book claims.
The book’s insider also claims that Prince William was stunned by the Queen’s move.
It’s thought the Duke of Cambridge voiced his worries to Kate Middleton, saying Harry would be “terribly upset” by it.
A palace spokesperson told the New York Post: “We don’t comment on books of this kind as to do so risks giving it some form of authority or credibility.”
Her Majesty recently returned to light royal duties after a health scare saw her spend the night in hospital.
