Queen’s Jubilee celebrations to include street parties and nationwide Bake Off

Brits are set to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee anniversary with a huge four-day Bank Holiday celebration this summer and the full plans have now been released by Buckingham Palace.

The 95 year old, who is the longest ever reigning monarch, will mark seventy years on the throne during the first weekend of June and the accompanying festivities will delight the nation.

Thousands of street parties are set to take place up and down the country, while a nationwide Bake Off is set to choose a dish dedicated to the Queen's impressive reign.

The extended bank holiday weekend, which usually falls at the end of May, will begin on Thursday, 2 June, to accommodate all the plans.

The long weekend will kick off with the Queen's Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) on Thursday 2 June.

On the same day, beacons will be lit to mark the Jubilee in over 1500 towns, villages and cities throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

The Principal beacon will be lit in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace, while the capital cities of Commonwealth countries will also light beacons.

On Friday 3 June, a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the Queen's reign will be held at St Paul's Cathedral.

The following day, the BBC will host the live concert, Platinum Party at the Palace, which UK residents can enter a ballot to secure tickets for, beginning from February.

Some of the world's biggest stars are set to perform on stage and celebrate Her Majesty's most significant moments from her reign.

During the final day of the celebrations, a Jubilee Lunch will be held with over 1,400 people having already registered to host their own version of the lunch.

A platinum Jubilee Pageant will also take place with musicians, military personnel, key workers and volunteers joining forces to tell the story of the Queen's reign.

Meanwhile, festivities for the Platinum Jubilee anniversary will kick off earlier in the year as a search has been launched to find the Queen's favourite pudding.

In what could be the biggest bake off the country has ever seen, organisers have revealed they are looking for recipes that can be recreated in homes for generations to come.

Anyone aged eight and over can enter the "Platinum Pudding" competition before February 4, with Dame Mary Berry being one of the judges.

A statement about the four-day celebrations by Buckingham Palace read: "The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen's 70 years of service.

"In addition, initiatives including The Queen's Green Canopy and the Platinum Pudding competition will create a lasting reminder of The Queen's Jubilee, while The Queen's private estates will also join in with special Jubilee themed events offering more opportunities for members of the public to celebrate the historic milestone."
