Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid, 50, has defended the publication of Prince Harry’s personal memoir, following the announcement yesterday that the Duke Of Sussex will be penning an account of his life that’s “accurate and wholly truthful”. The book, which will be released ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, will detail his time growing up as a senior member of the Royal Family, as well as his exit from the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle.

He wants to be in charge of his own story

Appearing on the ITV breakfast show this morning, Susanna defended the Prince’s right to release a tell-all memoir about his life.

She told her co-presenters: “I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Prince Harry to define the kind of privacy that he wants.

“He’s talked about how he found it really traumatic just constantly being covered by paps and the experience that his mother had and the way that tabloid newspapers have covered him.”

The newsreader went on to support the Duke of Sussex in telling his “own truth”.

Susanna said: “I think it’s a little disingenuous when people say, ‘Oh well you wanted privacy and you went away and now you’re doing a book’, well, in their words he wants to tell his own truth.

“He wants to be in charge of his own story,” she added.

However, not everyone felt the same way as the ITV host and viewers of the show took to Twitter in disagreement.

One social media user penned: “Susanna is still trying to get an interview with Harry.

“It can be the only reason she keeps defending the privacy farce.”

Another added: “This stupid, trendy expression ‘own truth’ is totally cringeworthy.”

While a third penned: “Let him write the book, is it going to impact anyone’s life, not really. Same old tosh again.”

The news of the Duke of Sussex’s publication was announced by Penguin on Twitter.

The publishing house wrote: “Breaking news! Random House is honored to announce a forthcoming memoir by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, to be published globally in late 2022.”

The announcement included a picture of a quote from Harry, which read: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.”

Former GMB presenter Piers Morgan was left fuming following the news and took to Twitter to vent in view of his 7.9 million followers.

Retweeting the news, the ITV host wrote: “You’ve got to be f***ing joking?????”

Piers then followed up his tweet with another hitting out at “Prince Privacy”, reacting to the description by royal commentator Omid Scobie that Prince Harry is “ready to tell his story”.

He penned: “Ready to tell his story? Prince Privacy hasn’t stopped yapping, whining & trashing his family all bl**dy year.”

Speaking in a statement about the news, Prince Harry said: “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

He is also expected to be donating proceeds to charity.
