He started out his career on soap Brookside and it looks life has come full circle for Ray Quinn as he recently ended up working on the famous Close once again.

The former X Factor star, who previously worked as a delivery driver during the pandemic, has began a new job in laying carpets.

After sadly losing his father Ray to cancer in November, the 32 year old has joined brothers Robin and Darren in the carpet fitting business and thinks his dad would be proud of him.

He told the Mirror: "My dad was a carpet fitter all his life. He taught my brothers how to do it.

"Dad knew I was going to help Rob and encouraged me to do it – but laughed when I said I'd lifted my first tool.

"When I first started, I actually went to work in my dad's old uniform. He'd always said you can work your way out of anything," he divulged.

Ray recently carried out a carpet fitting job on Liverpool's Brookside Close, where his career first began and said he was "humbled" to go back.

"It was the most humbling feeling. Fond memories came flooding back," he gushed.

He continued: "It's been a tough year. The industry stopped. Then I lost my dad to cancer in November.

"He was told he had up to eight months to live and he died six weeks later. I have days when I really miss him. He was my best friend."

Before joining the family business, the Dancing On Ice champion, who previously appeared on Hollyoaks, became a delivery driver for Hermes after not being entitled to any government support.

"I just didn't want to sit around and feel sorry for myself," he explained, but only did the job for three months.

"It just didn't stop. You can have up to 150 parcels in your van and you're out from 8am to 6pm.

"It helped put food on the table at the time, but it was reported I was earning £11.40 an hour… I definitely wasn't on that much," Ray expressed.
