Zoe Ball issues apology for on-air mishap after time away from Radio 2

Zoe Ball jokes she’s ‘been doing TV’ after radio mishap

Zoe Ball made a sensational return to her breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 after being absent from the airwaves since mid-May.

The presenter briefly made the move to television and stepped away from her radio role during filming, with Top of the Pops presenter Gary Davies filling in.

However, the 52-year-old revealed it’s not quite as simple as it seems to transition back and forth between radio and television.

During her return today, Zoe invited the public to share their personal hype songs, and suffered a minor blunder as she read out the responses.

She began: “This is Sarah on the way to work at Bishops Hull Primary School in Taunton, hello to Rosen Class!”

As some upbeat background music continued there was a brief, but awkward, silence on the radio show leaving listeners slightly confused.

Zoe quickly returned, making light of her mistake: “I’m waving now…This is radio I forgot!”

The host seemed to reply to the producers and colleagues around her as they reacted to her blunder: “I’ve been doing telly! Yeah…I know…sorry!”

Zoe’s extended time away was to host a new ITV talent show titled Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream, a docuseries focusing on the search for two new leads for the West End production of Mamma Mia.

Filming for the show began in Greece last month, and Zoe kept her avid following updated with her antics, sharing some enviable snaps on Twitter as she lay tanning on a Grecian beach captioned: “Working. Promise…”

However, the radio host’s absence from Radio 2 had been slightly longer than she intended.

The presenter fell ill shortly before jetting off for the series, forcing her to also miss out on covering the King’s Coronation Concert.

She shared on Twitter just hours before the concert was set to start: “Absolutely gutted… the sickness bug has got me.

“Was meant to be heading to Windsor Castle for the Coronation Concert on BBC Radio 2 later.

“Dermot O’Leary and Scott Mills have got you covered. I’m heading back to bed.”
