A 51-year-old mother who often gets mistaken for being half her age has revealed the secrets behind her ageless looks, saying stopped sunbathing 30 years ago and sleeps on a silk pillowcase.

Renae Olivia, a fashion and beauty blogger in New York City, shares her incredible tips for feeling and looking your best on Instagram and TikTok, where she has a combined total of 346,000 followers.

‘People are pretty surprised when I tell them my age. Fashion and style help me with that though. If you carry yourself with confidence, it helps for sure,’ she said, crediting her youthful appearance to just a few simple practices.

‘I stopped tanning — or should I say baking in the sun — at the age of 18,’ she explained.

‘I always take my makeup off at night. I sleep on a silk pillowcase, and I have a great skincare routine that I am very consistent with. I also never neglect my neck and hands. They can be the tell-tale signs of aging.’

She also works out four to five times a week for 30 to 45 minutes and eats a healthy diet to maintain her size zero frame.

‘Working out and eating right is so important now that I’ve turned 50,’ she said. ‘It is always important but so much more now so.’

Renae has found success on social media, but she didn’t find her calling until later in life. She grew up in a small town in Ohio, but she has always had an interest in fashion.

‘We didn’t have much money growing up, so I would just read the fashion magazines and see the celebrities on TV, and it really inspired me,’ she recalled.

Renae admitted that in her 20s she was dependent on her then-fiancé, who was her high school sweetheart. For a long time, she didn’t know who she was without him.

At age 28, she broke off her engagement after years of putting it off out of fear of being single and moved to New York City with a friend.

She spent her 30s establishing her own identity, and a decade after she moved, she met her now-husband, Ken, at the age of 38.

After several emotional rounds of in vitro fertilization (IV), Renae and Ken welcomed their sons — Tristan, six, and Kaidyn, two. She believes being their mother is her true calling.

Renae turned 50 in February 2021, and while many women fear the milestone birthday, she believes it marked a positive ‘turning point’ in her life.

‘Everything I’ve been through and achieved in my life has been roughly 10 years later than what’s considered “normal,” I guess you would say,’ she said. ‘I dreaded 30 more than 50. Fifty is definitely a daunting number. However, I am 100 per cent more confident and content now in this stage of my life.

‘Maybe it’s because my kids inspire me to be a better person overall. At 30, I only had me to take care of, so it was a different attitude altogether. I was way more selfish back then.’

Renae was inspired to start her popular social media accounts after women kept asking her to share her anti-aging secrets.

‘I started my YouTube and Instagram journey initially to show people my skincare and beauty routines because people would randomly ask me what my secret is for looking so young,’ she said.

She now has nearly 70,000 Instagram followers and has since launched her own TikTok account, which is even more popular.

‘I’m extremely surprised at my growth over the last year or so,’ the mom said. ‘It is very rewarding to see because I don’t think people realize how much work goes into creating all the content and all the behind the scenes that you have to do.

‘My advice to others is don’t question yourself or doubt yourself. Just do it. I wish I would have started sooner,’ she added. ‘What is the worst that can happen? I think the biggest regret in life is realizing too late that you should have at least tried. You just never know what might happen.

When she first launched her TikTok account, she received cruel comments from people who claimed she was ‘too old’ to be on the platform

‘I do get a lot of women that compliment my style. It makes me feel so happy that I can inspire others to feel good in their own skin, no matter your age.’

When she first launched her TikTok account, she received cruel comments from people who claimed she was ‘too old’ to be on the platform.

‘People say things like, “Thanks, I will forward this to my grandma, she’ll love it.” Or, “Yeah, you’re definitely too old to be on here.”‘

‘I did a fun guess how old I am video, which I had mostly very nice comments, but some would guess 75 years old or 65,’ she recalled. ‘I just said, “I respect your opinion, and I did ask the question.”‘

But she has proved all of her critics wrong after amassing more than 276,200 followers on TikTok, though not everyone is interested in her for her fashion and beauty tips.

‘Surprisingly, I have a little more male followers,’ she said. ‘I think some think of Instagram or TikTok as a dating app, but overall I would say roughly 50-50 ratio.’

Renae is focused on creating inclusive content for women in their 30s and older, as she works to make the world a better place for her children.

‘We should strive to make this world inclusive, not exclusive,’ she said. ‘That goes for all races, religions, ages, genders, and sexual orientations. We need to be kinder. I want a kinder world for my children’s sake more than anything.

‘My husband is Korean and my children are of mixed race and it scares me what is going on in the world today. I can’t just hope things get better, I need to be better,’ she explained.

‘It’s very difficult for minorities — and not just now. I’m in the process of figuring out what I personally can do to help.

‘I simply want my children to grow up in a better world. That’s a tall order for sure but I don’t think it’s impossible.’

Renae hopes to continue working as a digital creator well into her 60s beyond, and she wants to remind fans that it’s never too late to start.

‘If someone is 40 and wondering if they should start this journey, I say yes, yes, yes, just do it,’ she said.
