Valentine’s Day may be synonymous with red roses, fancy restaurants and cringeworthy cards, but for anyone looking to do things a little bit differently this year, Aldi is the place to go.
The budget supermarket has released a red velvet cream liqueur that’s sure to go down a treat this Valentine’s.
The Red Velvet Cupcake Cream Liqueur, which is a new flavour of their Ballycastle Cream Liqueur, is strikingly similar to Bailey’s Red Velvet Cupcake cream liqueur – in taste, that is.
Price wise, Aldi’s take on the liqueur is just a fraction of the price and is two thirds cheaper than the original.
Whether it’s Valentine’s, Galentine’s or just a normal Monday night that you’re celebrating, the liqueur comes in at £7.25 for a 70cl bottle.
The Bailey’s version, however, is priced at £21.99 – that’s a £15 saving (67 per cent)!
The deliciously sweet drink is made with alcohol, double cream and red velvet flavours, making it the perfect tipple of choice for anyone with a sweet tooth.
It is available both online and in stores while stocks last.
And coming in a stunning red bottle, the budget beverage won’t look out of place on bar carts or cupboard shelves either.
If that wasn’t enough, the supermarket chain has even come up with a suggestion of how to enjoy the velvety tipple.
Using only a few ingredients, the cocktail is extremely simple to make at home.
Called the ‘I Choco-love You cocktail’, the drink needs 70ml of the Ballycastle red velvet cream liqueur, 30ml of black spiced rum, 400ml water, 60g sugar and 60g of cocoa powder.
To make the drink, boil 200ml of water in a saucepan and then remove from heat before adding in the cocoa powder and the sugar.

After this, stir in the remaining water and allow the mixture to cool.
When ready to move on, add in the cream liqueur and rum and leave it to infuse the flavours.
When this is done, strain the drinks through a coffee filter and you should be left with a perfectly smooth cocktail.
But if alcohol isn’t up your street, Aldi is selling more than special liqueur this Valentine’s.
The supermarket is also selling a dozen red roses for just £3.99, as well as a Specially Selected Shades of Love Bouquet for £29.99.
