MILLIONS of people will get to enjoy a day off on Bank Holidays in May.

Brits will be treated to another day off in celebration of King Charles' Coronation on May 8, 2023.

While the Late May Bank Holiday will land on May 29, 2023.

When you can head out to do your grocery shopping will depend on the individual opening hours of each supermarket.

Bear in mind though that some of the individual stores may have different opening and closing hours, so do check before heading out.

You can check this on most of the supermarket chains' websites, with the local hours for each store.

Below we outline what each supermarket is doing over each of the bank holidays.

Tesco

Tesco has over 3,400 stores across the UK and each one's opening hours will vary from branch to branch so customers should check the supermarket's store locator.

You can find this on the website, and just have to enter your postcode to find your nearest store.

However, on the May Bank Holidays, the majority of Tesco's larger stores will be open from 8am to 6pm while some may stay open until 8pm.

All Tesco Express stores will be open as normal.

Aldi

Aldi has more than 1,000 supermarkets and opening times can vary across the UK.

The chain has confirmed its store will be open as normal on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30.

Its supermarkets will also keep their usual opening times on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

On Monday, May 1, and Monday, May 8, Aldi stores will open at the usual time, but they will close slightly earlier at 8pm.

All stores in Scotland will be open until 10pm as usual.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's confirmed 600 big stores will be open between 8am and 8pm over the three May Bank Holiday dates.

The smaller branches will be open as normal from 7am to 11pm.

But these aren't guaranteed opening hours and will vary depending on the shop.

You should check out the Sainsbury's store locator on the supermarket's website to find out what your nearest branch's opening hours will be.

You then have to type in your town or postcode and it will draw up your closest store.

All Sainsbury's convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 11pm. 

Morrisons

Morrisons has confirmed its store will be open as normal on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30.

Its supermarkets will also keep their usual opening times on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

On Monday, May 1, Monday, May 8 and Monday, May 29, Morrisons stores will open at their usual time, but they will close slightly earlier at 8pm.

Asda

Asda has over 630 stores and opening times can vary across the UK.

Asda has also confirmed its stores will be open as normal on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30.

Its supermarkets will also keep their usual opening times on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

On Monday, May 1 and Monday, May 8, Aldi stores will open at the usual time, but they will close slightly earlier at 8pm.

All stores in Scotland will be open until 10pm as usual.

Iceland

The good news is that Iceland will be open on all the May Bank Holidays in 2023.

There could be a possible exception in shopping centres or smaller stores, so it would be best to check beforehand.

And opening times vary for any Iceland At The Range stores.

You can find your nearest Iceland branch by using their store locator, which can be found on their website.

Co op

Co-op has over 4,000 stores nationwide, but exact opening times might still vary across the UK.

All Co-op stores will be open for business across all the Bank Holidays.

A spokesperson told The Sun: "As a convenience retailer, all Co-op stores will be open as usual in our communities throughout the May Bank Holidays.

"Enabling our members and customers to conveniently pick up everything they need for the long weekends and Coronation celebrations."

Opening times may vary from store to store, so it is worth double-checking the Co-op store locator before venturing out.
