Arsenal set to make PROFIT on forgotten man Konstantinos Mavropanos with Stuttgart to use permanent transfer clause

ARSENAL are set to make a small profit from on-loan defender Konstantinos Mavropanos after Stuttgart avoided relegation in the Bundesliga.

The Germans had an obligation to buy the 24-year-old if they stayed in the top-flight, which they did courtesy of a 92nd minute winner on Saturday.

Mavropanos has spent the last two-years with Stuttgart on a loan deal, making 54 appearances for the club.

And while there was an obligation to buy the defender if they stayed up, The Athletic claim Stuttgart had told Arsenal they wished to sign him regardless of whether they survived the drop.

The Gunners will receive £3million for the centre-back, plus another £1.5m in bonuses.

It means Arsenal will earn just under £3m in profit on a player they signed for £1.8m in January 2018 from Greek side PAS Giannina.

Although in a blow to the north Londoners, it is thought Mavropanos' market value is significantly more than £4.5m.

But an obligation to buy the forgotten man for that figure, subject to Stuttgart's survival, had already been agreed.

Nevertheless the Gunners are set for a small boost to their funds ahead of what is expected to be a busy transfer window.

Gabriel Jesus is one summer target, with SunSport exclusively revealing today that a deal is still on despite Champions League qualification now highly unlikely.

Mavropanos played just eight times for Arsenal in his 12 months at the Emirates prior to his loan spell.

But he has been a regular for Stuttgart ever since making the switch to the Bundesliga.

Mavropanos played 31 out of the club's 34 Bundesliga games this campaign, chipping in with four goals.
