Easter is fast-approaching and that means one thing to many food lovers – hot cross buns back in shops.

However, while many still enjoy a traditional bun smothered with butter, there are heaps of different varieties on shelves these days.

Hot cross bun lovers can get their hands on many flavours from chocolate buns to salted caramel flavours.

However, as well as sweet buns, people are now delving into savoury flavours too.

Asda is catering this, by currently selling tomato and Red Leicester buns as a savoury option.

The supermarket took to its Instagram page this week to promote the bun as it shared a recipe used by one of its shoppers.

The bun was seen toasted and filled with avocado, bacon medallions and a fried egg.

The store captioned the post: "Are you ready to take your hot cross buns to the next level?

"This tasty stack by @mandst_ww_tortoise is an Easter treat like no other – but what combos will you create?"

Some people were in favour of the savoury option, as one fan exclaimed: "We love your tomato and Red Leicester buns."

While someone else admitted the bun "left their tastebuds dancing".

However, another person, who clearly wasn't intrigued by the idea wrote: "Just no."

If you do like the sound of the buns, Asda's Extra Special 4 Tomato & Red Leicester Hot Cross Buns are available to buy from its website for £1.50 for a pack of four.

Other unique flavours the store is selling this Easter also includes its Extra Special Bramley Apple & Cinnamon Hot Cross Buns, along with Belgium Chocolate & Sourdough, Belgium blonde chocolate, St Clements and Tickled Pink.
