Police were responding to an “active shooting incident” near a shopping plaza in northern Austin, Texas, on Sunday. At least three people have been killed, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.
“All residents are advised to shelter in place and avoid the area,” the Austin Police Department tweeted around 12:20 p.m. local time.
The three fatalities were adults who sustained gunshot wounds, first responders tweeted from the scene. They reported no additional victims at this time.
The shooting took place near an apartment complex close to The Arboretum shopping plaza, according to local media reports. A suspect was not immediately apprehended, according to local ABC affiliate KVUE-TV.
“While a suspect is still at large it appears this is a domestic situation that is isolated and there is no risk to the general public,” police tweeted.
Officials are expected to hold a press conference around 2 p.m. local time.
Photos appeared to show a heavy police presence at the scene. Journalists reported helicopters circling overheard as the manhunt unfolded.
The shooting is one of several in recent days that has resulted in multiple deaths. Early Sunday, at least three people were killed and two others seriously injured in a shooting at a bar near Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Eight people were killed Thursday at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis when a former employee opened fire inside the building. Last month, eight people, including six women of Asian descent, were shot to death at three Atlanta spas. Less than a week later, a gunman fatally shot 10 people inside a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado.
