The author of the book that inspired Sex/Life has revealed how a racy journal detailing her exciting sexual past became a bestselling Netflix series.

B. B. Easton, from Atlanta, wrote raunchy memoir 44 Chapters About 4 Men in 2016 which explores the torment of a young mother who finds herself fantasising about the sexual freedom of her single years.

The mother-of-two admitted that her relationship with husband Ken was left ‘in the trenches’, and that she started journaling memories of her exes for fun after the birth of her second child.

Appearing on This Morning today, she said the diary became a ‘communication tool’ in her marriage and that it allowed the couple to ‘spice things up and reconnect in a really weird way’.

The book inspired Netflix series Sex/Life starring Sarah Shahi and Adam Demos, and follows a married mother whose ex comes crashing back into her life

‘I was a school psychologist, I had two little kids, a four-month-old and a three-year-old and my husband worked full time,’ she said. ‘We were at that stage of our life where we were in the trenches’.

B.B. felt as though she was ‘existing for other people’, and that penning down exhilarating memories from her past made her feel like the ‘girl she used to be’.

‘I was reading these books to try and stay awake and stumbled upon romance and realised I dated these guys, I dated a lot of these guys, I could write these stories without making anything up.

‘I started journaling stories about my exes, when I was young and free and didn’t have someone attached to me 24/7.’

B.B said the diary was never meant for public consumption, and she was overjoyed about how good remembering the ‘fun and spunky’ woman she had been in her younger years.

‘It was supposed to be about myself,’ said B.B. ‘It brought me so much joy. It helped me build this bridge between this existence I was living in and the girl I used to be.

‘It was for me and helped me feel I was that same fun, funny, spunky girl I used to be because I didn’t feel that way, I felt exhausted and disgusting.’

The book follows the four main men in Easton’s love life, including her current husband Ken, who has never read the finished product.

Speaking of the moment her husband found her journal, the mother admitted that she was terrified when she realised her husband had read memories of her previous sexual encounters.

‘In my sleep deprived new mom state I left my ex boyfriend diary out on my laptop, she said. ‘One night I was coming down the stairs after feeding my daughter and heard my laptop slam shut.

‘Ken was sitting and my laptop was on the coffee table and I was like: “We’re getting divorced, we had a god run”. I don’t know what he read but it wasn’t great.

‘I was on eggshells until the next couple of days and he said, “I got a babysitter, we’re going out, go pump”, just like in the show.’

She went on: ‘We never really talked about it, but I would write things in the journal and then a couple of days later Ken would act some of things out.

‘It really became this communication tool for us and helped us spice things up and reconnect in a really weird way, so I was like: “I’m going to keep doing this foreve!”.’
