Best natural deodorants from £12 if you’re looking to switch from a traditional formula

They have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, and more and more of us are on the hunt for the best natural deodorants. Simply put, these work to neutralise odours using natural ingredients but won’t prevent sweat in the way that a traditional antiperspirant would.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind when making the switch to a natural formula. Some people initially experience a kind of “transition period” of heightened sweating and/or a change in odour, as their body adjusts to being without traditional deodorant – though this won’t be the case for everyone.

Others find that even the best natural deodorants don’t always cut it in extremely sweaty situations like, say, a very vigorous exercise class. So if you aren’t fussed about ditching regular old deodorant for good, you may still want to have something stronger in the bathroom cupboard as a back-up.

The only way you’ll know for sure how well you get on with natural deodorant is by giving one a go, though, so here are a few pit-freshening formulas that have proven themselves to be fan favourites…

4 of the best natural deodorants to shop in 2022

Wild Natural Deodorant Starter Pack, £12 here

Wild’s natural, aluminium-free stick deos consist of a chic, everlasting case and refills that are plastic-free and 100% compostable. If these eco-credentials aren’t enough, then the creamy, non-drag texture of the stick and the sophisticated fragrances might just sway you – Lily & Freesia is the newest scent, while Jasmine and Mandarin Blossom is a nice floral option. The case costs £10 and refills are £6 each, and they’re also available as a subscription service.

Malin + Goetz Eucalyptus Deodorant, from £12 here

Malin + Goetz is known for its skincare products, but this deodorant has actually been one of its best-sellers for more than a decade. The key ingredients that balance out any unwanted odours are citronellyl and eucalyptus which, along with the lightweight balmy-gel roll on form, make for a very refreshing natural deodorant. It comes in two sizes, a dinky travel roll-on and the 73g full-size number, and there are Bergamot and Botanical scent options too.

Megababe Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant, £12 here

This brand may be new to the UK but it’s already raking in the five-star reviews from happy shoppers, including for its natural deodorants. More specifically, Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant is proving to be a fan favourite with its (you guessed it) fresh roses scent. "I'm an avid user of natural deodorants and have tried my fair share," writes one five-star reviewer. "HOWEVER… when I tried Rosy Pits it genuinely blew my mind. I'm so impressed!! I've tried it now in very hot, sweaty weather and it's still left me feeling clean and smelling gorgeous!!"

Nécessaire The Deodorant Gel in Eucalyptus, £18 here

Necessaire also finally launched in the UK this year, bringing with it facial skincare-inspired body care products – including natural deodorants. As well as the refreshing smell of eucalyptus the light formula contains a 5% concentration of alpha-hydroxy acids to gently exfoliate your underarms, helpful if your skin is prone to bumps and ingrown hairs. It also comes in an unscented version for the same price, if eucalyptus isn’t your thing.
