Former contestants from the CBS reality competition show took to social media over the weekend to slam the Season 24 cast for mistreating and ostracizing one of their own housemates.
“Members of the black community (especially black women) and other people of color stand no chance in the Big Brother House due to the perpetuation of micro-aggressions and unconscious biases which plague our society,” Xavier Prather, who was a member of an all-black alliance known as The Cookout before winning Season 23, wrote on Twitter Sunday.
Prather, 28, described the current houseguests’ behavior as “reprehensible” after Hale, 27, broke down in tears Saturday night when she seemingly overheard some of her co-stars bad-mouthing her.
“In the future, I hope it doesn’t take a ‘Cookout’ for black houseguests (or any POC houseguest) to finally escape the feeling of being ostracized within the Big Brother House for simply existing,” Prather concluded his post. “Change is a MUST! Until then, I know my fellow Michigander will keep her head high and stand tall like the Queen that she is.”
Tiffany Mitchell, another member of The Cookout, tweeted that she was “FUMING” after seeing a clip of Monte Taylor and Terrance Higgins talking about Hale on the live feeds.
“two black men gossiping and tearing down another black woman who actually did NOTHING to them. Accusing her of being condesending [sic] because she actually has a personality,” she wrote.
Mitchell, 41, later called out Daniel Durston for allegedly saying he knew Hale “would be bad news” the moment he saw her.
“Just by looking at her. Not talking to her. Not witnessing her doing something. Just looked at her and determined bad news. O K,” she tweeted.
“Big Brother” legends including Janelle Pierzina and Rachel Reilly also spoke out in support of Hale.
“Let’s make the beautiful quiet women who has literally done nothing but breathe, cry and make her feel like s–t. She is crying after hearing [Paloma Aguilar] talk crap about her. So fricken sad 😞,” Pierzina, 42, tweeted alongside a video of Hale sobbing into her hands.
Reilly, 37, then asked, “can we just put females that empower and lift each other up on already?”
While the show has yet to address the cast’s treatment of Hale, Sunday’s episode featured footage of her playing pool upstairs with her male co-stars while her female housemates gathered in a room downstairs and brushed off the former Miss Michigan USA competitor as a “pageant girl.”
Reps for “Big Brother” did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
“Big Brother” airs Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on CBS.
