A body positivity influencer has revealed how she healed how she views food and overcame an eating disorder.
Danielle Logan, 24, from Scotland, is an online coach and content creator whose relationship with her body has been a struggle over the years.
Now she motivates people online by sharing realistic photos of her body.
She spoke exclusively with Daily Star about how she’s learnt to love herself as inspires others to do the same.
“It isn’t easy when you’ve been taught to hate your body if it does not meet unrealistic body standards,” she explained.
“I was always very critical of my body, comparing it to every person I saw on social media. I truly believed my body dictated my worth and attractiveness.
“But, after recovering from my eating disorder, I was able to gain more self-awareness, as if I was starting to see myself for who I truly was when I switched my focus from external to internal beauty.”
While Danielle is happier and more confident now than she’s ever been before, she still struggles with the occasional bad body image day.
Thankfully she is equipped to deal with these days much better now.
She added: “It really is amazing thinking back on how much I have grown as I am learning to accept my body for all that it is instead of focusing on all that it is not!”
The 24-year-old says her relationship with food had never been great but she noticed it really change when she went to university.
She says that media exposure and diet culture taught her a variety of incorrect things about food.
“I was also driven to become the smallest version of myself and through toxic relationships and the media, I was introduced to the intermittent fasting diet which I followed for years,” she said.
“It created an even worse relationship with food for me. It introduced a lot more fear around foods and even meal timings.
“So, if I didn’t fast for X amount of hours, I had failed. It created a lot of competition with my body and myself, constantly fighting hunger and it actually made me end up fainting on a public bus. It was scary.
“I gained a lot of hate for myself and fear around food. It got to a point where my hair was falling out in chunks and my body was covered in rashes from head to toe so I decided to make some changes.”
Danielle wanted to turn her life, and her health, around. To do so, she completed a diploma in vegan nutrition.
This equipped her with the knowledge of how to eat “healthy” according to science.
And it helped her understand the importance of certain food groups as well as encourage her to eat them.
She also started working with a naturopath to help heal her gut and hired an online coach to help her gain an even more positive mindset around food.
Danielle explained: “Through a reverse diet, I was able to further transform my relationship with food.
“I am proud to say, I have an amazing relationship with food now and I am now helping hundreds of women on their food journey too.”
The coach uploads a variety of photos to Instagram but she has become known for her before and after photos as well as uploads where she shows realistic images of her body.
One recent photo that was particularly popular was when she showed a photo of herself looking posed compared to her looking relaxed.
Why does she upload these kinds of pictures? It’s simple.
“I didn’t want to be one of those fitness influencers that promote their body in an unrealistic way,” she shared.
“I want people to come onto my Instagram page and feel happy, feel good and feel normal seeing things like cellulite, bloating and stomach rolls.
“I also wanted people to see the true reality of weight gain and ED recovery including the huge bodily changes like seeing cellulite and stomach fat more on your body.
“It isn’t easy to deal with that so I want to shine some normality and positivity on it!”
