Bridgerton star Golda Rosheuvels life off screen including playwright wife and charity work

Golda Rosheuvel has won over a legion of fans for her portrayal as Queen Charlotte in both Bridgerton and the new prequel show, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

The star, 53, had a long career before being cast in the smash hit Netflix series, which has several of its' sets available to rent to fans, and has appeared in a number of other shows, including Luther, Silent Witness and EastEnders.

She’s also an acclaimed stage actress and has scored roles in long-running West End shows such as The Lion King, which she starred in between 2009 and 2011, The Tempest and The Colour Purple.

The actress has also been a longtime advocate for diversity in the entertainment industry, and is the patron of charity Acting For a Change, which works to promote inclusion in the business.

She has hailed the Bridgerton series for its’ commitment to this, and said in a recent interview: “It’s important to see yourself represented. It’s important to see people who look like you and who come from the same background as you.”

“It's important to see yourself reflected in the world around you.”

Off-screen, the star has been married to British playwright Shireen Mula for more than ten years.

Shireen is of Mauritian and British descent and spent much of her childhood in Saudi Arabia.

On her website, she says that she’s worked all around the world and has been nominated for two Off West End awards.

The pair reportedly live together in a home in South London.

Fans of Golda will be glad to hear that she’s set to make a return to the small screen later this year for series three of Bridgerton, when she’ll once again reprise her role as Queen Charlotte.

The next season of the show is reportedly set to follow the love story between Colin Bridgerton, the third of the Bridgerton brothers, and Penelope Featherington.

It marks a diversion from the third book, which focuses on Benedict’s romance with a servant girl named Sophie.

Instead Colin, who is played by the newly single actor Luke Newton, will be the focus of the next season.

It’s not known what role exactly Queen Charlotte, who doesn’t feature prominently in the novels, will play in series three.
