When one care resident said she’d always wanted a tattoo like staff member Amelia Pace’s ink, she got to work.

Amelia, who works as Head of Lifestyles at Castleford House in Chepstow, created an ‘inking and drinking’ day for 15 people living there on July 11.

Amelia, who’s been working at the home for seven years, came up with the idea for tattoos and booze to bring some joy to the home, and says it was a big success.

‘I wasn’t expecting such a positive response from the residents – because some older people really don’t like tattoos,” she said.

‘But they all loved it.

‘I’ve got tattoos myself and there’s only got one resident with a tattoo.

‘Others often say they like my arm, and one resident previously said they wanted one.

‘I said, “well let’s do an inking and drinking day.

‘We got some temporary tattoos in and made it a real thing. We also had a massive crate of coronas.’

To really create the tattoo studio atmosphere, Amelia played the sound of the tattoo gun in the background.

‘We played it through the Alexa,’ she said.

‘We had it on quietly in the background because that’s all you can hear in these tattoo places.

‘We tried to style the place like a tattoo parlour – rock and roll music, even a makeshift waiting room.

‘Everyone was just sat around drinking beer, socialising.’

She said the residents loved the chance to have some fun and they’ve kept hold of the rest of the stick on tattoos and hope to put on a similar sort of event in a few weeks’ time.

On whether any of the residents felt the affects of the booze, Amelia added: ‘They were merry – they maybe had one or two each.

‘They were just laughing and giggling.’
