Celebrate Mexico’s Cinco de Mayo and enjoy that fiesta feeling with these tips

TODAY is Mexico’s festival of Cinco de Mayo – Fifth of May – when millions celebrate with food and beer.

It marks their victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. To join in the fun, why not throw a little fiesta at home? But be mindful of Covid restrictions, of course.

These deals and ideas will help you plan . . .

NISA ONE! Head to Nisa for a great in-store offer that will get you and the family a tasty Mexican meal for less. The current Nisa Big Deal offers Co-op British chicken fillets, 600g, and an Old El Paso fajita kit (BBQ, crispy chicken or extra mild) or enchilada dinner kit for just £4.50. That’s a saving of £3.79.

OOH, AAH, TEQUILA: Fancy a few tipples and games with your feast? Cazcabel Tequila has launched the world’s first tequila board game, La Lotería. This is a hand-illustrated version of the Mexican classic bingo- style game. You can get Cazcabel La Lotería for £19.99 from cazcabel.com and the Cazcabel Blanco Tequila, for £23.10 from Master of Malt, plus get 6.66 per cent back via Topcashback. RRP £24.99.

BURRITO BARGAINS: Naked burrito bowls have been a huge social media trend — with more than 20million views on TikTok alone. If you want to get in on the trend easily and cheaply, check out Aldi. It has two delicious flavours on its shelves — naked chicken fajita burrito bowl and naked beef burrito bowl at £2.69 each, around 72 per cent cheaper than some fast-food chain prices.

BOX CLEVER: I love Gousto, a subscription recipe box that really helps you get creative in the kitchen. The website has a huge range of Mexican recipes in its online cookbook. If you fancy giving it a try, head to gousto.co.uk, where there is currently an offer for 50 per cent off your first box (on three meals for two or more).

  • Prices correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
