Get your sweat on! The things you SHOULD be doing at the gym
Coming in at first place, the celebrity trainer revealed you should always wipe your machine down and put away any equipment you used.
‘Nothing is more infuriating for both staff and other gym goers than getting to a sweat soaked machine or not being able to find equipment needed because it wasn’t put away properly,’ she said.
Get your sweat on! What you SHOULD be doing when working out
- Wipe down your machine and put equipment away
- Use your phone as much as you wish
- Be nice to staff and those around you
- Say ‘hi’ to your gym crush
- Ask for permission before filming
- Keep gym chat short
- Let your instructor know if you will be late or need to leave early
- Wear deodorant
- Kindly ask to use something if someone is using it
- Be spatially aware
By wiping any thing you used down and putting back, you allow others to get their sweat on as well.
She added that if someone is using something you want, you should just ‘kindly ask.’
‘If someone is using something you want, kindly ask how long they have left, let them finish their set in peace instead of standing there watching them while they finish,’ she explained.
Next up, she came to the rescue of everyone who loves to keep their eyes glued to their screens while getting into shape.
‘Use your phone as you wish, as a trainer I don’t care if you use your phone and sacrifice your own workout,’ she explained.
However, she added that you shouldn’t let your phone ruin someone else’s workout.
On the topic of phones, the trainer revealed you should always make sure no one else is in a video or picture unless you have received permission.
‘If filming your workout make sure no one else is in the video unless you have permission and if taking a class ask the instructor for the all clear first,’ she told DailyMail.com.
Similarly, Bec said you should always be nice to the staff and explained that ‘kindness goes a long way.’
And the trainer noted that it’s not just the staff you should be kind around.
Bec said: ‘Smile, be kind to people, tell someone they are doing great.’
She explained that while those getting their workout on may look like they know what they’re doing, gyms can be ‘intimidating,’ so you should try your best to make those around you feel welcome.
And while you’re being nice to those also getting into shape around you, she revealed you shouldn’t be shy when it comes to talking to your gym crush.
The celebrity trainer gave everyone the ok as she said, ‘You will always regret not saying hi to the cute guy or girl aka your gym crush.’
She added that saying ‘hi isn’t being creepy.’
And while you should take the chance to say ‘hi,’ Bec noted that you should keep the talking to a minimum.

She told DailyMail.com: ‘Understand social cues, keep gym chat short unless the other person is encouraging it.’
She also said you should always wear deodorant, and be spatially aware.
‘Be spatially aware. If the gym is empty then of course be as obnoxious as you like and take up all the space but if other people are around the general rule is take up as much space as a yoga mat or two and don’t ever get up in other people’s personal space,’ she explained.
Lastly, the celebrity trainer noted that you should always communicate with your instructor.
She told DailyMail.com: ‘If you need to leave a class early try and give the instructor a heads up before class starts, make sure you have a spot towards the back and discreetly leave.’
Stop! DON’T commit these workout sins
Bec then revealed the gym sins she sees far too often.
The first thing you should never do is spend too much taking a ‘selfie.’
She said: ‘If taking a selfie please don’t spend more than a few min on it, this should not be as strenuous as the workout itself.’
And while you shouldn’t use the gym as your own personal photo booth, the trainer also revealed you should never judge or ‘roll your eyes’ at those taking progress pictures.
‘Don’t roll your eyes at someone taking a selfie unless they are not adhering to the above and instead are 15 minutes deep into a thirst trap black hole,’ she explained.
And keeping on theme of thirst traps , Bec said you should always be self-aware when it comes to the noises you are making.
Lastly, the celebrity trainer said that you should always take responsibility for yourself
Time to workout! What you should NEVER do at the gym according to a celebrity trainer
- Answer a phone call on speaker
- Play your music too loud or out loud
- Expect the instructor to baby you if you are late
- Spend too much time taking a selfie
- Roll your eyes at people taking pictures
- Bring large metal water bottles to class
- Make any noises that sound like you’re having sex
She explained that ‘the noises coming out of you while working out’ should never ‘sound like you’re having sex.’
And you shouldn’t just worry about the noises coming out of you, but you should also be wary about the noises your personal items are making.
For example, Bec said you should never bring your large metal water bottle to a fitness class.
‘Keep the swell bottle out of all group fitness classes, the sound of them falling over in class sends everyone over the deep end and the last thing anyone wants to hear,’ she said.
And same goes for your phone, Bec said you should never play your music too loud or accept a call on speaker because you will be disrupting others at the gym.
‘Don’t play your music out aloud, always use headphones especially when using a peloton or streaming a workout,’ she explained.
Bec added: ‘No calls or facetimes on speaker phone, we literally don’t care about what crazy thing happened last night or what Janice did at the office today.’
Lastly, the celebrity trainer said that you should always take responsibility for yourself.
She advised fitness lovers to take the initiative to figure out what is going in class if they are late.’
‘Don’t make the instructor baby you, give you a special explanation and interrupt class,’ she said.
