Chelsea players WILL NOT score Dream Team points at the Club World Cup

THIS is an important public service announcement.

Chelsea players WILL NOT be eligible to score Dream Team points in the upcoming Club World Cup.

This ruling is consistent with previous seasons, Liverpool assets did not add to their tallies when they won the intercontinental competition in 2019.

Dream Team gaffers absolutely should take this into consideration when devising their strategy this month, especially with transfers set to be reset tomorrow (February 4th).

Thomas Tuchel’s side host Plymouth in the FA Cup this Saturday but the next fixture in which their players will score points is the Blues’ trip to Selhurst Park on February 19th.

As Champions League holders, Chelsea go straight into the semi-finals of the Club World Cup where they will either play Al Hilal, Al Jazira or AS Pirae on February 9th.

They will then compete again three days later in either the third-place play-off or, more likely, the final – Brazilian side Palmeiras being their stiffest competition for the trophy.

Simply put, if your XI is stacked with Stamford Bridge assets then you may want to readjust the balance ahead of Game Week 23.

Most-popular Chelsea players (% ownership):

  • Mason Mount (£4.2m) – 27.9%
  • Romelu Lukaku (£5.1m) – 24%
  • Marcos Alonso – 16.9%
  • Antonio Rudiger – 16.4%
  • Edouard Mendy (£3.8m) – 12.1%

It’s worth noting that at this stage, Chelsea are set to play four Dream Team relevant games this month while Manchester United are scheduled to fulfil seven fixtures.

Of course, the schedule is subject to change more than ever this season due to several Covid postponements, but it’s clear that targeting plentiful fixtures is a tactic with huge potential.

For example, you may prefer Mount to Bruno Fernandes (£5.2m) but who is more likely to net more points come the start of March, the England international after four games or the Portuguese after seven?

You can always bring Chelsea players back at a later date.

In fact, that looks advisable as the west Londoners face Burnley, Newcastle, Lille and Norwich next month.

But for now, make sure you don’t get caught out by the Club World Cup.

There would nothing worse than thinking a Lukaku hat-trick against Al Hilal has earned you a boat load of points only to then realise it counts for nothing.
