The ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel case has reached its conclusion today (July 29), with Rebekah Vardy losing her libel claim against Coleen Rooney.
The trial comes after Rebekah's Instagram account was accused by Coleen, 36, of leaking fake stories about her in October 2019 in an Instagram post dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’. Rebekah has always denied the allegation.
During the trial, one claim regarding Peter Andre made headlines after Coleen’s barrister David Sherborne brought up an interview Rebekah, 40, gave in 2004 which detailed an alleged one night stand with the singer.
But what did Rebekah claim happened between her and Peter and why was the Mysterious Girl singer brought into the spotlight? Let’s take a look…
Rebekah claimed that she had a fling with Peter in 2001 during an interview with News of the World in 2004.
In the interview, I’m A Celeb star Rebekah claimed that Peter had “the smallest trouser equipment I've ever seen” and that he was hung like “miniature chipolata”. She also said that he “made no attempt to satisfy me”.
Despite being published more than ten years ago, the interview was brought up in the trial after Coleen’s barrister used it as an example of how Rebekah treats other people’s privacy.
While in court, Coleen’s barrister David held up an A3 copy of the article and read the headline, which said: “Peter's hung like a chipolata, shaved, slobbery, lasts five minutes.”
After doing so, he asked Rebekah: “Did you think it was respectful of Mr Andre's desire not for this to be made public for you to say all this to the News Of The World and 4 million readers?”
In response, she claimed that she had been “forced” to do the interview. She said: “I was forced into a situation by my ex-husband to do this.
“It is something that I deeply regret… It is not nice to read and I understand why this is being used and to me this is mudslinging and I was also threatened with mudslinging by Mrs Rooney's team.”
After the interview resurfaced, Peter took to Instagram wherehe opened up about having to experience 15 years worth of jokes because of the claims.
“Fifteen years this has been going on, and I kept quiet and didn't say anything, and I let everyone have their laugh and say what they wanted to say,” he said.
“Now, she [Rebekah] has gone to court and admitted that the story was made up and she did that because her ex-husband forced her to – fair enough – but put that all aside, and just think how it feels.”
He added: “The only one that sits there and takes hit after hit about it, is me. I've been laughing about it for a while, but think about how it would feel if it was the other way around.
“That's all I'm saying. I think we all know now it was just a made-up story, but it's a little more serious than that. And I think it's not fair that something like this can happen again and again and again.”
