Chocolate fan sparks debate after claiming Flake and Twirl bars are the same

A man has stirred a debate among chocolate fans after claiming Cadbury Twirl bars are basically "Flake covered in chocolate".

Dan Timlin posted a video on his TikTok account @thegoosefighter where compared the two chocolate classics.

"Twirl," he says while pointing at the packaging of multi-pack sweets before gesturing at the centre of the chocolate bar, adding: "Flake."

Then he zooms the camera to a pack of Flake, explaining: "Flake, without the chocolate. They are the same thing man."

Some viewers agreed that Twirl is "Flake with a jacket on", but others argued that they are not the same, insisting that one melts and the other doesn't.

A viewer wrote: "You can melt Twirl, but you can't melt Flake. It's a completely different type of chocolate."

In reply to her comment, Dan decided to put it to the test and filmed the "experiment".

In the clip, he unwraps both chocolates and puts them on a kitchen foil, adding: "They are the same chocolate inside.

"Okay, I will put them in the oven for 10 minutes before the Flake chocolate doesn't melt, and Twirl neither."

When he takes them out and unwraps both chocolate, Dan claims: "They are both burnt!"

He added in the comments: "I have tried every way, the whole point is that this chocolate doesn't melt. This chocolate won't melt using boiling water method either."

The clip has divided chocolate lovers with some agreeing that it is "messier" to eat a Flake whereas Twirl has a coating outside to "hold the crumbs".

One said: "Flake tastes so much better!"

But one said: "The Twirl was literally launched as a Flake wrapped in chocolate. The Flake logo was on the Twirl packaging for more than 10 years."

In a response to, Cadbury Australia told news.com.au: "Both Twirl and Flake are made with Australia’s favourite Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate that we all know and love.

“How each of them are made is a secret though, known only to the brilliant chocolate makers in our factory…and they’re not too keen to share it!"
