Clever way Rihanna hid her pregnancy from her Super Bowl 2023 dancers

Rihanna announced that she was expecting her second child during her performance at the 2023 Super Bowl – but kept the news tightly under wraps until the final moment.

Now, one of her backup dancers has revealed how she kept the secret throughout rehearsals.

One of the dancers took to TikTok after the performance, for which Rihanna wasn't paid, to share how Rihanna had her fooled despite a week of rehearsals.

The 20 year old dancer, who goes by the name Luhnyae on social media, said that she absolutely “did not know” that Rihanna was expecting again and that the star “came into rehearsals with big fur coats or Fenty sets all the time – you know, the big sweatshirt ones.”

She also explained that most of the dancers didn’t have the chance to speak with the singer personally, as there were just “too many” of them, which meant they weren’t able to get a good look.

Instead, Luhnyae explains that Rihanna thanked them all as a group at the end of the rehearsal period.

The backup dancer also joked that she was “mad at everybody” she felt was judging what she thought was Rihanna’s post-partum body, adding that she felt defensive of the star.

Joking that she “forgot” that women can get pregnant “back to back”, Luhnyae explained that she was as surprised as anyone when Rihanna announced it during the show.

However, she continued to say that she suspected Rihanna’s more regular back up dancers, who go on every tour, might have been in on it.

Rihanna gave birth to her first child, a son whose name is still strictly under wraps, with rapper ASAP Rocky in May 2022.

The Work singer is now thought to be between three and five months along with her second, making her due date sometime in Summer 2023.

Dancer Luhnyae has also been answering other questions about the performance on her social media as fans rush to find out more about some of the outfits.

All of the dancers were clad in large white jackets, which Luhnyae jokingly compared to marshmallows, matching white trainers and even matching t-shirts and sports bras.

Luhnyae confirmed that the sports bras the female dancers were Rihanna’s own brand, Savage X Fenty, and encouraged fans to buy one of their own, before adding that she wasn’t being paid to promote the merch.

The 20 year old also explained that the shoes (and socks) were from Puma but disappointed her followers when she revealed that she wasn’t sure where the jackets had come from and that they appeared to just be “wardrobe.”

She shared that she decided to just “trust the process” when she was put into her white suit and said that her initial reaction was one of surprise that they weren’t “gonna be sexy.”

The dancer also added that, whilst she wasn’t totally sure, she thought that Rihanna, who was cheered on by friend Jay-Z during her show, picked out the outfits herself.
