The cost-of-living crisis is becoming a very real worry for so many as the winter slowly creeps in.
One of the biggest worries for many is themassive hike in energy billswith the price cap set to increase in October. It's expected that it'll continue rising next year, with the average household's bills potentially reaching £5,000 a year.
The price of everyday items is also rising rapidly too as inflation has hit over 10 per cent, compared to 2 per cent last year – and one of the biggest groups affected by this is parents.
For those with newborns and tots, there are many essentials needed and it is thought that parents are to face a shocking 60 per cent price rise for nappies and baby wipes.
Pampers product prices have risen in all of the four biggest supermarkets of Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
The brand’s Baby-Dry Night Nappy Pants Size 6 rose in price by 60 per cent in Asda this summer, going from £5 in June to £8 in July, according to trade publicationThe Grocer.
The publication also found that in Morrisons, New Baby Sensitive Baby Wipes rose from £11 in July, and to £15 in August causing a 36.4 per cent price increase.
In Sainsbury’s, Pampers’ Aqua Pure Baby Wipes rose 25 per cent from £2 to £2.50.
While in Tesco, New Baby Size 3 Nappies Jumbo+ Pack rose by just over 22 per cent in price from £9 in June to £11 in August.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s told the publication: “While prices can go up and down for a range of reasons, we’re committed to offering our customers great choice and value when they shop with us.”
It seems Twitter users have been struggling with the prices too, as one wrote: “The price of the nappies and milk though [crying emoji].
Another said: “The price of nappies is just unacceptable!” and another said: “The price of nappies really hurt this gentlemen….”
Meanwhile from this October, theaverage annual household energy bill is expected to surge by 81 per centdue to Russia’s war on Ukraine and huge demand for a limited supply of gas.
It is thought the cost of using gas to heat a four-bedroom home to a room temperature of between 20.5C and 21.5C will soon rise to £3,105 a year under the October price cap, according to supplier Octopus Energy. This is compared to the current cost of around £1,716.
The Telegraphreports that if prices continue to rise, some appliances may cost nearly twice to run in the first three months of next year.
Under the forecast for this winter’s price cap, a tumble dryer will cost £1.15 to run, a washing machine £1.53 and a dishwasher 77p, according to analysis by Utility Warehouse.
The publication adds that a family of four who use their dishwasher once a day can expect to spend £31.74 more than they do now.
If a family of the same size each showers for five minutes twice a day, their bills will increase by £147.20 from October.
