Cut your TV viewing costs with our cash-saving tips as Netflix hikes prices

IT’S to-telly outrageous!

I can’t believe Netflix is hiking its prices again.

From next month, standard plans will increase from £8.99 to £9.99 a month.

That’s an extra £12 per year that most of us have not budgeted for.

Want to fight back?

Here are some screen-savers that might help . . .

NO-SPEND MONTH: Many of us are attempting no-spend January, and it’s a good idea.

Pause a premium TV subscription such as Netflix for a month and you’ve almost incorporated the price hike.

It’s a challenge but it’s made easier thanks to the likes of All 4, ITV Hub and My5 adding previously archived series to their services for free during lockdown.

FREE FLIX: Towards the end of 2020, Netflix sneakily created a few freebies that lots of people don’t know about.

Head to netflix.com/gb/watch-free for first episodes of Stranger Things, Love Is Blind, Our Planet and even the new Boss Baby series.

Of course, you could also trial another service for free, such as Amazon Prime’s 30-day trial.

DOUBLE DOWN: Sharing is caring, and if you weren’t aware, Netflix has a premium plan at £13.99 for four accounts — double the standard plan — streaming on four screens, which is perfect for four members of your family, social bubble or no social bubble, right?

A shared cost of £3.50 per month each.

PHONE HOME: Lots of people are unaware that their mobile phone plan might have a freebie entertainment deal.

Some EE contracts come with six months’ free access to the BT Sport app, where you can see live games.

If you’re with O2, add Disney+ to your contract for £5.99 a month and O2 will take £2 off your bill each time, which makes it £3.99 — or over six months, a £10 (£12, surely? Queried) saving.
