A doctor has warned people "don't touch your face" and explained every single one of us has mites living in our pores that only come out for "sexy time".
In a video, NHS surgeon Dr Karan Rajan tells his followers: "Don't freak out but 100% of people watching this video have tiny creatures living on their face.
"They are called Demodex and although they look like tiny worms they are more closely related to spiders.
He adds: "This is the crazy bit: they are at least as old as the human species and we've had them throughout our time on this planet.
"If you actually look at the DNA of these creatures, people in different parts of the world have different face mites.
"They tell the story of your ancestors and the story of human history and migration."
Dr Karan says the microscopic parasites remain hidden in our pores and only come out for mating which makes them "impossible" to get rid of.
He says: "You will never see one as they spend most of the day deep down in the [hair] follicle and while people sleep they crawl out for sexy time and lay eggs.
"It's impossible to get rid of all your face mites."
The video has been watched more than 500,000 times since the medic uploaded it on his @dr.karanrTikTok channel on Wednesday (January 5).
One viewer joked: "Not the bugs on my face getting more action than me."
A second person complained: "Why can't they just eat all my sebum and save me from acne then? Fuming, living rent-free."
Some people, particularly those with arachnophobia, wished they had never been told the information.
One user commented: "I miss one minute ago when I didn't know this."
Another wrote: "FACE MITES? SPIDERS? Nah this ain't it. Bleach anyone?"
Dr Karan also has an Instagram account and YouTube channel where he shares weird medical facts and what it's like being a surgeon.
