Fans called Elden Ring the Dark Souls version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild based on the difficulty and exploration aspects. As players dug into the highly anticipated game, they also found many odd and frightening foes. However, Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda fans found something else in common. They spotted Elden Ring creatures that looked like a longtime Nintendo enemy from the Ocarina of Time Forest Temple.
A creature in the ‘Elden Ring’ overview trailer resembled a creepy-crawly ‘Legend of Zelda’ dungeon enemy
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco released Elden Ring PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and PC on February 25, 2022. They dropped an Elden Ring trailer for the action RPG for the dark fantasy world created in collaboration with fantasy novelist and Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin.
The game showed off some ferocious monsters players had to face in Elden Ring, two hand weapons at the ready. However, around the 4:50 mark, the Elden Ring gameplay trailer gave fans a glimpse at a creature that reminded fans of a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time foe.
The player character passes a tower before a gnarly hand leaps from a nearby wall. It then scuttles toward the screen, looking more like a spider than an appendage.
Fans compare this monster to a familiar foe found in many Legend of Zelda games, including the 1986 NES Nintendo game, Ocarina of Time, and also A Link Between Worlds.
Fans compared the hand creature in ‘Elden Ring’ to ‘The Legend of Zelda’ Wallmasters and Floormasters
The Legend of Zelda series is no stranger to bizarre and strange foes. ReDeads, the Ocarina of Time Shadow Temple miniboss Dead Hand, and also Floormasters stand as some of the most vividly frightening Nintendo enemies.
Similar to Floormasters, they are monsters that also resemble massive, gnarled, disembodied hands that latch onto Link a he explores dungeons. In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, hands reach out to abduct other characters like Medli and Makar.
One fan on Reddit compared the Elden Ring and Legend of Zelda enemies. They also said that Elden Ring ‘ripped-off’ The Legend of Zelda. However, they said this as more of a joke.
Several commenters then revealed the creepy memories they had playing through the Ocarina of Time Forest Temple and seeing Link snatched away as he tried to rescue Saria.
The ‘Dark Souls’ Twitter said they’ve all ‘taken notes’ from Nintendo over the years
When Nintendo first showed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, fans com ared it to Dark Souls. Link fought Bokoblins with a much wider range of attacks than past games like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
And when one game redefines a genre, fans weigh it aga nst those that follow. Fans compared Elden Ring, The Legend of Zelda, and Dark Souls, but the companies give credit where credit is due.
“[We] think we’ve all been taking notes from Nintendo-sensei for a long, long time,” Dark Souls Twitter posted.
As game companies refine and reinvent gameplay, it only makes for a better xperience for players. And something that freaked out Nintendo players in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time can only turn out more terrifying in something like Elden Ring.
