While filming in the mountains of Italy, the cast of House of Gucci practically broke the internet with iconic fashion, adorable Adam Driver pictures, and an unrecognizable Jared Leto. But aside from stellar fashion and Lady Gaga's brilliant accent, you may be wondering what House of Gucci is all about.
Crime, murder, and '90s après-ski fashion (the devil, in fact, does not wear Prada, but Gucci), read on for everything you need to know about one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
What Is House of Gucci About?
House of Gucci is a cinematic retelling of a true crime fashion story: the murder of Gucci director Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the brand's founder, Guccio Gucci. The events of the movie, directed by Ridley Scott, are based off the 2001 Sara Gay Forden book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. It tells the story of Gucci's despicable murder, which was ordered by his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani.
According to Deadline, the biopic will span over three decades in order to follow Maurizio and Patrizia's story, from their marriage to the divorce, Maurizio inheriting the brand after his father's death, and Maurizio's murder in 1995, when he was shot and killed on the steps of his Milan office. It all leads up to Patrizia's (aka the "Black Widow") trial, where she was sentenced to 29 years in prison for ordering her ex-husband's murder.
In the trailer, we get a glimpse into the fabulously evil Patrizia and her nothing short of iconic accent.
