A real-life Rapunzel with hair measuring 5ft 9in opened up about the time her family banned her from cutting her locks.

Karolina Czajkowska hasn't always had a long mane but allowed it to grow progressively due to her relative's wishes.

As a child, her hair reached her shoulders, but by high school it measured down to below her bottom.

After cutting 30cm off at 19, her mum and gran asked her to never do it again.

From then, the 30-year-old, from Poland, has only trimmed her locks to keep it in good condition.

Karolina last went to the hairdresser around 11 years ago. Since then, her mum, sister and partner help trim the ends.

Now her hair measures a whopping 5ft 9in, which is half a foot longer than her height of 5ft 5in.

She attributes her fast hair grows to genes.

But having hair longer than her height has come with problems in the past.

Karolina often steps on her locks, while on another occasion, she ran a chair on wheels over her mane.

Now to prevent an injury, she keeps her hair from tangling by wearing a bun.

She always sleeps with her hair in a braid as she uses masks and oils to keep it healthy.

But sadly, Karolina has faced some online criticism with trolls calling her hair ugly and impractical.

Mostly the real-life Rapunzel receives compliments as she boasts 2,500 followers on Instagram.

She said: "I haven't always had long hair. As a child, I wore my hair to my shoulders.

"As a teenager I had waist-length hair and from then on I let my hair grow.

"Until high school, where my hair was longer than my butt. This is when I cut it.

"Then I shortened my hair by about 30cm. This was 11 years ago. Me and my family were not satisfied."

Karolina told how all the women in her family have always had long hair.

Speaking about the length of her locks, she added: "Measured from the top of the head, it is close to 180cm.

"I am 167cm tall. I went to the hairdresser about 11 years ago. I think it's mostly genes."

But there are disadvantages that come with having long hair.

"I've stepped on my hair many times," she admitted. "Sometimes my friends sat on my hair by accident.

"It hurt the most and pulled the most hair out when I ran a chair on wheels over my hair at work.

"Now I often wear my hair in a bun, also don't tangle as much when in a bun."

Karolina now shared her advice for people who want long hair.

She explained: "My hair is unique, has a rare length, is beautiful, silky and healthy. I always wear a braid to sleep.

"As for washing my hair, it depends on how much time I have.

"Sometimes it's a mask, washing, and finally a conditioner. Sometimes just a wash and conditioner.

"If possible, I let them dry on their own. If I need to dry, I use cold or medium temperature air.

"Comb your hair gently, do not tug or pull it.

"If there is a possibility of stepping on, hooking or pulling out in any other way, it is better to put your hair in a bun."
