You want: A wrinkle-free smile
Pesky vertical lines above the lips can spoil the look of your lipstick, especially when the colour bleeds and ends up under your nose! Smartxide CO2 laser softens lip lines by piercing tiny holes into the skin, stimulating dermal tightening and thickening. The mouth area will be quite red for three days or so and will also peel but this controlled injury makes the skin repair itself by boosting collagen. From £400 and results last up to two year.
How fast? A single treatment will take around seven days to heal and will totally rejuvenate the mouth area.
DIY alternative: Eye cream is good for smoothing lip wrinkles plus it makes an ideal base for lipstick. Foundation dabbed gently over lips helps to fill in some of the fine lines and prevent lipstick getting into them. Or buy a lip primer.
You want: Bee stung lips, no commitment
A fuller pout without hyaluronic acid fillers? Yes, you can with The Cinderella Lip, a treatment that plumps thin lips for two to three days. A dental block is given and then saline (water and salt) is injected into the lip line to add definition and volume. From £60.
How fast? Results are immediate and there’s no danger of a trout pout, as the saline dissolves quickly. It’s a great way to see if you’d like the look of longer-lasting fillers.
DIY alternative: A dab of cinnamon, clove or peppermint oil will swell lips temporarily. Dab on every couple of hours to keep up the results.
You want: An instant facelift
If a saggy face is getting you down, consider The PDO Lift. Although it won't give you the results of a surgical face lift, it’s quick, less expensive and a good option if you want a subtle tweak. Ultra-fine threads are introduced through a miniscule needle hole, then gently pulled, allowing the skin to be lifted and contoured. The treatment can tighten everything from drooping brows, cheeks, jowls and neck – all at the same time, if necessary. It takes less than an hour, using local anaesthetic. From £999.
How fast? The results are immediate although there may be some bruising and swelling for around a week. Results can last up to two years.
DIY alternative: Make a face lifting mask by mashing an avocado then mixing with one egg in a blender. Massage along the jaw and cheekbones, then leave for 10 minutes. The mixture will dry and tighten skin. Do twice a week to see softer lines and a firmer complexion. Or try Filorga’s new skin-firming 10–Day Treatment NCEF Shot, £62 here.
You want: Toned upper arms
Feel confident sleeveless with Fractora Forma, a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. Taking around an hour, it delivers pulses of radiofrequency which boost collagen and elastin, leaving skin tighter, firmer and more youthful. From £300 per session – a course works out cheaper
How fast? You’ll see instant results and better skin tone after one treatment, which will continue to improve over the next few weeks. Your skin might appear a little red for a few hours, but side effects and recovery time are practically nil. For arms that are more lax you may need a course of up to six weekly treatments – you’ll fit in three before Xmas.
DIY alternative: Mix coffee granules with brown sugar and olive oil, and rub it over damp skin in the shower to help temporarily plump and firm the skin. Daily skin brushing will also help flush toxins out, while self-tan will instantly make arms look slimmer.
You want: A red carpet glow
For a brighter plumper complexion try The EXCELIGHT Facial. The latest and most advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) rejuvenation system boosts collagen while targeting broken capillaries, sun damage and age spots. Cost from £120
How fast? You’ll see instant results but for longer lasting effects try a course of two to three, spaced at least ten days apart.
DIY alternative: Exfoliation is the simplest step towards a smooth, glowing complexion. Try Eucerin’s Hyaluron-Filler Night Peeling & Serum, £38 here, an overnight exfoliator and serum for all skin types. Expect to wake to smoother, younger-looking skin.
You want: To zap a zit fast
Spots have a habit of appearing just before a big event. But fear not. A cortisone shot will zap unsightly zits by injecting them with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients. From £50.
How fast? Spots usually disappear within 24-48 hours. Remember, cortisone shots are brilliant at clearing blemishes, but don’t prevent them.
DIY alternative: Crush an aspirin with water into a paste and dab on the spot to reduce inflammation. Pimple patches help absorb the impurities trapped under skin to flatten breakouts. Try Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch, £7 here.

For some women, it seems, bath bubbles and candles will simply not do as gifts. Instead, tweakment vouchers are becoming increasingly popular – but is this ever ok?
Surgery and tweakments are not something to be taken (or given) lightly. They are medical procedures, and gifting them trivialises them. They’re also very personal and if you’re the giver, you are basically telling someone they need to change their appearance – a slippery slope.
Undergoing a cosmetic procedure should also only take place after a lot of research and a face-to-face consultation. Most important of all, the treatment must be carried out by a medically qualified practitioner at a reputable clinic. If the recipient has had a consultation and really wants a treatment, or regularly has them, then gifting can help towards the cost. But think carefully before you splash your cash.
