REVAMP READY
I’m guessing that if you haven’t been in loungewear these past few months, you’ll most likely have been wearing denim. According to John Lewis, searches for jeans are up a whopping 481 per cent, and it’s little wonder when they’re the easy style solution to just about anything.
As Trinny Woodall has said, there’s something about wearing the right jeans that can instantly update your look — but beware the ageing effect of the wrong ones.
MOM’S THE WORD
As a long-term fan of skinnies, they’re a hard habit to break, but with spring in full swing, it’s time to get your ankles out with a wide-leg style, be it these culottes I’m wearing from Boden, or a pair of mom jeans — my favourites are by Zara.
Camilla Ridley-Day shares advice for wearing this season’s double denim trend (Jacket, £110, and shirt, £65, hushuk. com; culottes, £79, boden.co.uk; loafers, £99, mintvelvet.co.uk)
Whichever way you spell it, you don’t have to be a mother to wear them. They’re both comfy thanks to the high waist (no lockdown muffin-tops on show) and flattering to legs because of the relaxed fit.
DOUBLE DUTY
Once considered a fashion faux pas, wearing denim separates together has been given the seal of approval by designers including Balmain and Ulla Johnson. Mix and match different tones on your top and bottom halves, or for more impact keep to the exact same colour, as I’ve done here with this quilted bomber from Hush.
FLAUNT IT
Girls will be girls, so if you want to give this denim look a more feminine touch try a puff-sleeved shirt like the one from Next (below), or rediscover the joys of a skirt with Ganni’s high-waisted version (also below). Emphasise your waist and tuck in your top, whether you’re wearing jeans, culottes or a skirt, for a streamlined silhouette.
