Fierce Woman: Heres How Phoebe Waller-Bridge Made It Big In Hollywood

With her success on the Fleabag and other projects, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is becoming a well-known figure in Hollywood. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator and actress of Fleabag, is now James Bond‘s second female screenwriter and has two Emmy-nominated series and Hollywood at her feet. Phoebe Waller-Bridge did her research. The highly successful author views the Sunday brunch crowd from a shaded sofa in the Chateau Marmont courtyard with the assurance of a regular. It almost seems unseemly to conduct an interview with a writer and actor who so deftly avoids cliché on a platform where 8,736 celebrity profiles have been gathered. However, Waller-Bridge leans on Hollywood clichés as a wave of the press to capitalize on the Emmy nominations for Fleabag.

She was recently asked to assist in saving the new James Bond script, apparently at Daniel Craig’s request, and her breakout shows Fleabag won big at the September Emmy Awards. In other words, Waller-Bridge is our woman crush of the century. Phoebe is a hero among women, a rose amid thorns, a superb writer whose work – against incredible obstacles – has made it into the pitiful 14% of prime-time TV genuinely written by women. Here are things you should know about the current pop star.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge was born in West London on July 14, 1985. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2006. The RADA alumna made her acting debut in 2009 on the Soho Theatre in Roaring Trade stage as a bond trader who took advantage of her sex appeal, but she has since concentrated on TV work, including the now renowned Killing Eve. She previously wed documentary filmmaker Conor Woodman, and Martin McDonagh, a playwright, and screenwriter, have also been romantically linked to her. With the release of the critically acclaimed spy thriller Killing Eve in 2018, for which Waller-Bridge was nominated for a writing Emmy, her name really shot into the public eye.

She continues to produce the program despite leaving her position as showrunner after the first season. The playwright and director are most well-known for their part in Fleabag on BBC. Based on her one-woman stage piece from 2013, Fleabag is nominated for 11 Emmys for its second season after being passed over for the first. Waller-Bridge has received three nominations, including lead actress, writing, and comedy series. Not only that, but she has other shows competing as well. She is nominated for best drama as executive producer of the second season of BBC America’s slick spy thriller, Killing Eve, for which she is also responsible.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Vicky Jones co-own a theater company. Jones has worked with Waller-Bridge for a long time and is her best friend. The two jointly manage DryWrite, a London-based theater company they founded to create work that would purposefully upset audiences. The two quickly grew close friends and worked together on programs including Waller-television Bridge’s series Crashing after meeting while Jones was directing Waller-then-boyfriend Bridge’s in a play. Her play-turned-TV series Fleabag debuted on Amazon Prime. Waller-Bridge would become the first person to ever win multiple genre awards in the same year, joining TV icon David E. Kelley, who won the 1999 Emmys with The Practice and Ally McBeal.

For a woman who was essentially unknown in Hollywood just three years ago, it’s rarefied air. The character and idea for the show were inspired by Waller-one-woman Bridge’s play Fleabag, which was produced by Vicky Jones and was a huge success at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it received the coveted Fringe First Award for outstanding new writing. Soon after, a television adaptation of the show was offered, and its first season premiered in 2016. Despite angrily refusing to create a second season, Waller-Bridge took a few years off before returning to the idea with a new, and she claims last, a season that just debuted on Amazon Prime.

As she celebrated her three Emmy wins for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, and Best Comedy Writing, a famous photo of her with a margarita and cigarette quickly went viral. Additionally, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was claimed to have been brought on as a co-writer for No Time to Die, the newest entry in the Bond franchise, which hits theaters in November, thanks in large part to English actor Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond. For 58 years in the history of Bond films, Johanna Harwood, who co-wrote the scripts for the first and third Bond films in the early 1960s, Dr. No and From Russia With Love, was the only female screenwriter before producer Barbara Broccoli clinched the deal.

Waller-Bridge won BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Emmys for her work as creator and lead actor in the TV series Fleabag; Craig has signaled that Bond should make her a writer. No Time to Die will be Craig’s final appearance as the notorious agent 007, and by pushing to hire her. When asked if Waller-Bridge was selected to serve as a representation of women, Craig cut off the discussion by saying it was irrelevant and that she is just one of the best authors out there. The English actress and author currently have a net worth of $25 million.
