Stormtroopers, Chewbacca and the Ghostbusters descended on London today as avid comic fans mingled in their favourite character costumes.

Thousands of enthusiasts, dressed as characters from comics, films, cartoons and computer games, came together at Olympia in Kensington, west London, for the first of a two-day Comic Con Spring event.

Celebrity guests at the annual event include the Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker, Richard E. Grant, from The Rise of Skywalker and The Witcher’s Tom Canton, according to the organisation’s website.

Also meeting fans is Harry Potter’s Predrag Bjelac, as well as Mandip Gill, who plays Yasmin Khan in Doctor Who, Harriet Walter and Celia Imrie.

Hundreds of sellers have also filled the arena to sell rare memorabilia from films, including toys, costumes and collectable merchandise.

The Covid policy for the event includes the wearing of face masks, while people who’ve mixed with others outside their normal circles or been part of a large crowd within the last couple of days are encouraged to take a LFT before travelling to the occasion.

Organisers add: ‘No person with symptoms or anyone who has tested positive in the last 10 days and has not subsequently had a negative test in the last 5 days should attend the event.’
