SARA, 36

Single, with no children

Dating Past?

I’ve been single for four years. I was married for six years before that and I’ve just had a couple of flings since then.

Pre-Date Nerves?

No. I don’t get nervous. My attitude was to go and have fun.

First Impressions?

We met at the entrance of the restaurant as I got there a little bit early. I looked at him and he looked at me, and I thought: ‘This must be him!’ He looked shorter than me — his profile said 5ft 8in, but I’m 5ft 5in and was wearing heels so we were the same height. Still, he had a nice smile, though he looked a little nervous.

Sara, 36, has been single for four years. She was married for six years before that and has only had a couple of flings since then

Easy To Talk To?

At the beginning it was a bit awkward — as meeting someone new can be — but then we got on to talking about our jobs and where we stand in life. We are both firmly focused on our careers and want to do well in them.

He was really easy to talk to but I’m not sure we had much in common.

I’m quite spiritual and open to talking about deep things and he was surprised by that. But he said he enjoyed that side of me as he couldn’t really have that kind of discussion with his friends.

We talked a little bit about our family dynamics and how we get along with our siblings. Our backgrounds are so different. I was born in Angola, but have lived in Portugal, Switzerland and the U.S. as well as London, whereas Samson was born and brought up in Manchester. But we had plenty to talk about and I really enjoyed our conversation.

Embarrassing Moments?

He asked if I’d like to meet up again and to spare his feelings, I said no, sorry, I’m not really looking for a relationship. That was a bit awkward.

Did sparks fly?

He’s a nice guy and it was lovely to chat to someone interesting, but there were no real romantic sparks.

She wants to meet a man who has drive and passion, and who is kind. If he looks like Michael B. Jordan, however, none of that really matters

See him again?

No. But I would still give the date top marks in the sense that I had no expectations and there were no low points.

What do you think he thought of you?

He thought: ‘Wow!’ He said he was really interested in my profile because he felt I wrote from the heart and seemed genuine.

Would your family like him?

Yes, they would say he’s a lovely guy — but they would definitely see he’s friendship material and not for me romantically.

SAMSON, 31

Single, with no children

Dating Past?

I’ve been single since my teens. I’ve dated casually, but I like doing my own thing and I’m not really bothered about settling down unless someone really special comes along.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Yes, but I tried to channel that into being positive rather than worrying, ‘What if?’

Samson, 31,  been single since his teens. He has dated casually, but he likes his independence and is not especially bothered about settling down

BLIND DATE VITAL STATISTICS

SARA

Single, with no children.

CURRENT ROLE

An actress.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

He has to have drive, passion and be kind. But I’d throw that list out if he looks like Michael B. Jordan.

SAMSON

Single, with no children.

CURRENT ROLE

I work in public relations.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Someone who is strong, independent and knows her own mind, and who can really make me laugh.

First Impressions?

Sara was already waiting at the restaurant when I got there. I saw this really attractive woman wearing a blue and cream outfit and with curly blonde hair. She looked great, with a nice smile. I liked everything about her from the word go. We shook hands loosely — I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable by going in for a kiss.

Easy To Talk To?

We really seemed to resonate with each other from the moment we started talking. She’s got a degree in marketing and communications so knew a lot about my line of work, and I felt I could chat to her easily about her acting career, too. She’s clearly a woman who has dreams and ambitions.

We both love football — she even plays it locally, while I’m a Manchester United fan. Sara seemed genuinely interested in asking me questions. At times it felt a little like I was in a job interview, but in a good way.

She didn’t give anything away about her past relationships or dating and I didn’t go there either. It didn’t feel like the right time.

Although I got the impression she enjoyed the date, I didn’t want to be so bold as to ask for her number. If she wants to see me again that’s great, but I’ll leave it to her to decide.

Embarrassing Moments?

Running late, I arrived hot and with a dry mouth, which meant I couldn’t get my words out to begin with.

Did sparks fly?

It’s always tricky when you only have a couple of hours.

I really liked her and I think if we met a few more times there might be sparks, but not just yet.

See her again?

Yes, I’d really like to see her again.

Samson is looking for someone who is strong, independent and knows her own mind, and who can really make him laugh

What do you think she thought of you?

I’d like to think she enjoyed the date but she said she wants to concentrate on her career, not a relationship.

Would your family like her?

Yes, I think they would like her. If nothing else, she’d make a lovely friend.
