With summer fast approaching, many Britons will hope to spend lots of time outdoors in the coming months. Those looking to buy new garden furniture could be faced with challenges, however.

Some British suppliers have reported delays when trying to import essential summer items, including garden furniture and picnic baskets.

In fact, customs clearance platform KlearNow reported around 60 percent of the suppliers have been hit with delays.

An increase in demand and the ongoing effects of the coronavirus has left some suppliers struggling to get stock as easily as normal.

Many parts of the UK enjoyed warm and sunny weather earlier this month and it seemed lots of people turned online to find pieces for their gardens.

Home insurance experts at money.co.uk conducted a study to see if the increase in demand changed prices.

They analysed data on the prices of the most popular garden furniture pieces sold on Amazon.

In particular, the study focused on how prices have changed in the last year.

Interestingly, the results showed costs fluctuated greatly as the warmer months approached.

Garden furniture covers saw a whopping price increase of 137 percent on Amazon, while the cost of hammocks and parasols increased 68 percent and 64 percent respectively.

Sunloungers had been marked up by 51 percent, tables by 47 percent and benches by 46 percent, the study reported.

The lowest increases were seen on garden furniture sets as they rose by 23 percent and porch swings, which increased by 12 percent.

Out of the top 10 products reviewed, one parasol cover increased by a whopping 700 percent as it increased from £2 to £15.99.

Lots of Britons have spent more time in their gardens over the past year.

Coronavirus restrictions have limited how often people have been able to leave their homes and they have instead turned to sitting out at home.

According to a study by interior design experts Stelrad, outdoor lights and water features are set to be the biggest garden trends this year.

The results are based on analysis of Google Search Volume this year.
