Grieving dad sends message to dead wife’s number – and gets response

"Happy Mother's Day baby" read a strange message received by an iPhone user.

Turns out, it was a widowed husband who would text his late wife every single Mother's Day, and its story broke many hearts in a Reddit thread, reports Birmingham Live.

In the message exchange, the man simply writes: "Happy Mother's Day baby."

When asked "who's this?" by the user who receives the message, he then adds: "This was my wife's number when she was alive.

"I always send her a text even though she is not with me anymore."

He added: "This is the first time anyone has ever answered. I'm sorry I won't do it again. God bless you."

One Redditor said: "This is the kinda stuff that makes you cry every time…"

"When my cousin died I used to text his number all the time one day someone texted back except they were rude and angry it was awful," a second said.

A third said: "I'm a widow and on particularly bad nights I shoot my husband's number a text. I have his phone still but it's not on my plan anymore."

And another asked: "People do this kind of stuff all of the time. I have a friend who hasn't cancelled her deceased fiance's phone just because his voice is on the voicemail and she can't bring herself to.

"How unheard of would it be to keep your deceased wife's number in your phone as whatever she had always been in there and to still text her to make it feel like she may still be there?!"
