‘Halo’ Episode 3 recap: Master Chief partners up with Cortana
Halo Episode 3, “Emergence,” featured a big moment for fans of the video games, as the adaptation finally introduced Master Chief’s AI partner, Cortana (voiced by Jen Taylor). Dr. Halsey (Natascha McElhone) completed her cloning process to bring Cortana to life and essentially put her into Master Chief’s (Pablo Schreiber) mind. Cortana acts as a fail-safe in the event that Chief attempts to go against UNSC orders again.
Chief was reluctant to accept Cortana at first, but she helped him find more information about the visions he saw whenever he touched the artifact. He discovered that he was seeing his own childhood on his former planet, Eridanus II. And though the planet had been sealed off for some time, he said he wanted to search it for another artifact he might have buried there as a boy. Halsey agreed to go with him.
Elsewhere, viewers saw a flashback to Makee’s (Charlie Murphy) childhood, when the Covenant brought her aboard as a “Blessed One.” In the present day, she tricked a UNSC team into “rescuing” her so that she could take over their ship, eliminate the team, and begin her own search for the artifact.
Finally, Halo Episode 3 showed Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha) as she convinced Soren-066 (Bokeem Woodbine) to bring her back to Madrigal so that she could start a new rebel team. She promised to pay Soren a hefty sum in exchange for a ride. He told her that he would kill her if she didn’t hold up her end of the deal.

‘Halo’ Episode 4 preview: Master Chief and Dr. Halsey explore Eridanus II
Paramount+ has already released the first look at Halo Episode 4. As seen in the above video, Kwan will return to Madrigal in an effort to keep the planet free of UNSC control. Meanwhile, Halsey will accompany Master Chief on his journey to Eridanus II. However, Dr. Miranda Keyes (Olive Gray) warns that Halsey may be “uncomfortable” with Chief acting too “human.”
“Dr. Halsey designed everything to her specifications. When her creations behave in unexpected ways, she gets uncomfortable,” Keyes says. “To Dr. Halsey, human beings are messy, irrational, chaotic. She doesn’t tolerate glitches.”
