Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t be attending Diana’s memorial party on Monday and the snub has done the royal rift no favours.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined the invite to join the star-studded celebration of the late Princess’ life with 100 guests including Elton John and Prince William.
According to royal expert and author Penny Juror, the Sussexes are simply “not interested” in attempts to repair their relationship with the monarchy.
Penny told The Sun: “The longer they stay away the greater the rift and the more difficult it is to come back from.
“There is a lot of work to be done, it’s a shame they can’t come back. It shows they are not interested in making things work.”
The invite snub comes after Harry was reportedly left ‘on the verge of tears’ in one of his final royal duties.
Harry and Meghan joined the royals for a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, but there was no mention of them being in the procession in the order of service.
The Duke was said to be very upset as his brother Prince William and Kate Middleton were featured.
Royal author and historian Robert Lacey wrote that the snub was laid bare for all to see “in black and white,” and according to one viewer “his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears.”
Recent reports suggested that the Duke and Duchess were planning a Christmastime trip to the UK to introduce Lilibet to the Queen and christen her on British turf.
But royal insiders now believe Her Majesty, who is yet to meet her great granddaughter, will miss out on the event.
A palace source told The Telegraph: “There will not be a christening in the UK. It is not happening.”
Since moving stateside to their Santa Barbara mansion, Harry and Meghan have distanced themselves from the Royal Family through private work.
After their recent whistle stop tour of New York to combat climate change, the pair now vow to ‘change the world’ through a £1bn ethical banking business.
Meanwhile back on home soil, Prince William and Kate have been green fingered with school kids at Kew Gardens and are due to attend the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in London later this week.
