Call off the mob!

Earlier this week, Heidi Montag shared her new ads for S1NGLES Jeans, creator of “the world’s first single-use jeans” — and immediately faced fierce backlash.

“The beauty of S1NGLES is that you only wear them once. When you’re done with them, you throw them away and wear a new pair. It’s that simple,” the company’s website reads.

“What in the global warming did I just read?” one Instagram user commented, while others slammed S1NGLES’ so-called “sustainable” concept as “so wasteful,” “disgusting” and “one of the biggest fashion fails.”

On Thursday, thankfully, the whole thing was revealed to be a joke — one meant to draw attention to the environmental harm wreaked by single-use plastic bottles, no less.

“Single-use jeans are as stupid as the single-use plastic bottles polluting our oceans,” Montag, 35, wrote on Instagram Thursday. “I’m partnering with @Oceana to ask soft drink companies to stop using single-use plastics and switch to refillable bottles. Join our #RefillAgain movement.”

Oceana elaborated on the purpose behind the prank as well, writing, “How can you get a world overwhelmed with — and used to — single-use plastic bottles to see how much more sense it makes to switch to refillables? By launching a new throwaway product that shows just how bad an idea it is to use something once made to last a long time.”

Montag’s followers were relieved to learn she wasn’t actually advocating for disposable denim.

“Oh thank God,” one wrote, while another said, “YES!! I knew you would not promote something that ridiculous and there had to be a catch!!”

Per a press release from Oceana, up to 34 billion plastic bottles become marine pollution every year. Worse, according to the org’s research, only 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled.

Fans can show their support for the #RefillAgain movement by signing the petition on Oceana’s website — and by continuing to wash and rewear their favorite jeans, of course.
