In the world of country music, few names stand out as brightly as Garth Brooks. With his unique blend of twang and heart, he has managed to captivate audiences all around the globe, solidifying his place as one of the all-time greats in the industry. But beyond his undeniable musical talent, Brooks has also proven himself to be a shrewd businessman, amassing a staggering fortune of over $400 million. So, how did he manage to achieve such financial success? Read on to discover the secrets behind Garth Brooks’ incredible wealth.

The Early Life Of Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks was born on February 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of six children born to Troyal and Colleen Brooks and grew up in a musical household. His mother was a singer, and his father worked as a draftsman and designed the stage for the local rodeo. Brooks initially harbored dreams of becoming a professional rodeo cowboy and even worked as a rodeo clown for a time.

However, the music eventually won out as Brooks’ true passion, and he began performing at local clubs and events while still in high school. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he studied advertising and played football for the Cowboys. During this time, he also met his future wife, Sandy Mahl.

After college, Brooks and Mahl married and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where Brooks began his professional music career. The couple had three daughters together, Taylor, August, and Allie. Despite his busy schedule, Brooks has remained dedicated to his family and credits them as one of the driving forces behind his success.

The Start Of Brooks’ Musical Journey

Garth Brooks began his professional music career in 1985, performing in clubs and bars in Oklahoma. He was initially more interested in rock music but was inspired by George Strait’s debut single to pursue a career in country music. In 1987, Brooks and his wife moved to Nashville to begin making connections in the industry, and by 1989, he released his self-titled debut album, which was a chart success and spawned several popular singles, including Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) and If Tomorrow Never Comes.

Garth Brooks released his second album, No Fences, in 1990. The album spent 23 weeks at the top of the country albums chart and contained his signature song, Friends in Low Places, as well as other hits like The Thunder Rolls and Unanswered Prayers. Brooks’ live shows are known for their energy and arena rock theatrics, and he has cited influences ranging from James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg to KISS and Chris LeDoux. In 1990, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

Brooks’ International Fame: Road To World Recognition

Garth Brooks’ third album, Ropin’ the Wind, was released in 1991 and became his second-best-selling album after No Fences. It included the singles The River, What She’s Doing Now, and a cover of Billy Joel’s Shameless. In 1992, Brooks released his first Christmas album, Beyond the Season, which was the best-selling Christmas album of that year.  Brooks’ fourth album, In Pieces, was released in 1993 and became another success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts and selling nearly 10 million copies.

That same year, Garth Brooks embarked on his first world tour, which included shows in the UK, Europe, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. In 1994, he released his fifth album, Fresh Horses, which spawned the hit single, She’s Every Woman, and in 1996, he released The Hits, his sixth album which compiled his most popular songs from his previous albums. During this time, Brooks also gained popularity in other countries, becoming the first American country artist to sell out shows at London’s Wembley Arena.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, performed informal concerts that were broadcast on Facebook Live and CBS, and he performed at 300 drive-in theaters in North America.

Garth released an album called Fun in 2020 and performed at the inauguration of Joe Biden in 2021. In 2022, he performed at Tiger Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University, where his performance was registered on the university’s seismograph. In 2023, he will have a concert residency called Garth Brooks/Plus One at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which will definitely earn him more money.

Ventures Away From Music

Garth Brooks has pursued several ventures outside of his music career. He played baseball for the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and Kansas City Royals during spring training, but did not make it onto the regular season rosters. In 2005, he started his own record label, Pearl Records, and released several compilation albums through it. He also founded GhostTunes, an online music store that featured his own digital music as well as music from other artists, but it closed in 2017 and merged with Amazon Music.

Brooks has also been involved with Major League Baseball’s Touch ’em All Foundation and has been involved in real estate. He has owned several properties, including a ranch in Oklahoma and a home in Tennessee. It is not clear what other businesses or investments Brooks may have had or have. What is clear, however, is that he has made a ton of money from these ventures and has been able to build a $400 million empire from them.
