If The Hamptons have long been the summer retreat of choice for US-based celebrities and well-heeled mere mortals, then it seems there’s a new waterside vacation spot – with its very own Billionaire’s Row – that has the attention of A-listers heading on vacation.
Last week, the Beckhams shared a veritable photo album of their time in ‘perfect’ Muskoka on Instagram, putting the relatively unknown Canadian lakeside retreat, home to some of North America’s most extravagant homes, back in the spotlight.
Posh Spice proudly shared a clip of her husband and son Cruz helping with a fallen tree on a rural road, in a group that also included actor Austin Butler.
Victoria told her 31.2million followers via a video clip: ‘Did u ever think u would see Elvis and Beckham lifting a tree? Helping the community in Muskoka. I’m impressed gentleman!’

Later, there were more images of David on an electric surfboard, while Harper tried wakeboarding and Cruz got a drenching on the deep blue lakes that dominate this beautiful part of Ontario.
It’s thought the family were visiting this pretty portion of Canada as guests of Canadian billionaire Jamie Salter and his wife, Sheryl.
Salter, founder and CEO of Authentic Brands, also shared some holiday snaps of the Beckhams’ time at his home, including himself and the ex England footballer pootling around on a row boat and drinking cocktails on a sizeable terrace.
Here, MailOnline looks at exactly why this remote beauty spot has become the rich and famous’ favourite way to vacay…
WHERE EXACTLY IS MUSKOKA?
Just over two hours by car from Toronto, Muskoka is, according to the Ontario tourism board teeming with ‘Striking lakes and landscapes, abundant wildlife and charming ice-cream communities.’
Locals call it ‘cottage country’ – but with such a major international airport nearby, it’s very much accessible to the jet-set.
A secret…until the A-listers put it on the Gram: Lake Muskoka lies around two hours and 20 minutes’ drive north of Toronto in Canada’s Ontario region
Known for its mirror lakes, soaring forests and very expensive ‘cottages’, it’s become increasingly popular with the well-heeled in recent years
Secluded, luxurious homes are well-hidden by soaring forests on the banks of Lake Muskoka, ensuring that famous faces can enjoy a little privacy. There are two other lakes, Joseph and Rosseau, close by too.
The region has become one of the most sought-after areas in Canada – nicknamed both ‘The Hamptons of the North’ and ‘The Malibu of the North’ in US newspapers.
In May this year, a sprawling lakefront estate boasting 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms across two ‘cottages’ – with two boat houses – hit the market for a cool $18million.
WHO OWNS A MUSKOKA COTTAGE?
It’s perhaps not surprising that Elvis actor Austin Butler was visiting Muskoka when the Beckhams were in town’ – Butler is dating Kaia Gerber, the 21-year-old daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford.
In 2022, Cindy Crawford posted a shot of herself of the helm of a powerboat on a Muskoka lake, her model daughter with husband Rande Gerber, Kaia, is a fan of the region, and has introduced her beau Austin Butler to the area
Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson reportedly own a cottage overlooking Lake Muskoka
The Beckhams were a guest of Canadian businessman Jamie Salter and his wife Sheryl, who own property in the area
Crawford and husband Rande often share images of their time in Muskoka, and are thought to have snapped up a cottage when the region was less well known amongst their celebrity peers.
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn too are long-time Muskoka fans, locals have often spotted the couple near their vacation home in Lake Rosseau.
Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson reportedly own a cottage overlooking Lake Muskoka – and Shania Twain has keys to her a property here.
WHO ELSE MIGHT YOU BUMP INTO?
Back in 2018, Justin and Hayley Bieber headed for Muskoka; Bieber was born in London, Ontario – three hours south of the lake region
Becks will be back: the Inter Miami CF owner appeared to be enjoying the lake’s high-octane pursuits during his visit
Justin Bieber is an Ontario boy, so it’s little surprise that he’s made Muskoka his choice for some r and r.
Back in 2018, he posted a photo of himself with wife Hayley Bieber enjoying a cosy boat trip on the lake, with American model Hayley showing off her huge sparkler as the couple embraced.
The Beckhams will almost certainly be back for more, the lakeside spot has become a regular haunt for them – last year they were here with Mark Wahlberg and ex hockey player Tie Domi.
