Pictures from across the UK, including locations such as Manchester and Gloucester show massive queues outside Debenhams department stores. A huge number of the outlets are closing for good, putting on closing down sales with huge discounts.
Keen shoppers queued outside stores as Debenhams opened doors for the first time this year.
This comes as non-essential retail stores have been allowed to open today in England after being temporarily closed due to the coronavirus crisis.
The retailer has previously announced nearly 100 stores would stay closed for good.
However, they have opened their doors today to hold a clearance sale and sell off remaining stock.
This saw bargain hunters head to their local stores and queues before branches opened this morning.
Shoppers appeared to social distance as they waited outside until the stores opened their doors.
Debenhams announced branches would not reopen after the retailer was bought by online fashion giant Boohoo.
The online retailer acquired Debenhams earlier this year in a whopping £55million deal.
A spokesperson for Debenhams stated: “This is the last chance for customers in England and Wales to visit their local Debenhams before sadly our stores close for good.
“We will be reopening with a fantastic range of offers and discounts across all of our customers’ favourite brands and products.
“Stocks are limited and expected to sell out quickly so customers should visit their nearest store quickly to avoid disappointment.
“We are very grateful for the efforts of our staff who have worked so hard throughout the most difficult of circumstances to keep the business trading.”
