Previously, we were left surprised when we tried Mrs Hinch's 10p hack to clean the oven.

And now after noticing the limescale build up in my kettle, I thought I'd work my magic, once again…

The beauty of this little hack was that I could do it while sitting in front of the telly.

For starters, it's so important to have a clean kettle – because at the end of the day, you're drinking from it.

Limescale can creep up extremely easy in a place like this appliance and we should never avoid it.

So to begin, I threw out the water that was already left in the kettle then poured some more in to the top.

Next I got some citric acid and put a couple of teaspoons in there, more or less.

And then this part was super easy… I just put the kettle on.

Citric acid is a great addition to your list of natural cleaning ingredients, thanks to its low pH.

  • Dirty-minded people left giggling at optical illusion – can you see why?

It's great for removing things like limescale, rust and other minerals.

The stuff can even work wonders on mould and mildew as it could be used as a preservative.

Now after the kettle boiled completely, the limescale was completely gone – it's that simple.

I did leave it for a few minutes after, just to make sure the acid can continue to work its charm.

Of course you'll need to rinse it out a few times because there's nothing worse than the stuff in your next brew.

Citric acid isn't hard to find, it's usually in your local market, next to all the spices.

Some major supermarkets have it too, like Wilko where you can buy 50g for just £2.

I don't just use citric acid for my kettle – it works amazingly on other areas of the house with limescale too.

So next time you reach for the expensive stuff to clean your kettle, just get a couple of teaspoons to do the trick.

It's cheap and cheerful, plus I didn't have to use any elbow grease whatsoever!
