We’ve been married for 20 years. I’m 45, he’s 47 and we have two teenage sons.

He works away a lot and his 70-year-old mum always makes him feel guilty about not being around.

She’ll turn up at our house unannounced and expect to be entertained, even if he’s away.

She doesn’t care if I have work or housework to do and never offers to help.

Instead, she just criticises me, saying the house is a mess or my cooking is awful.

I want to cut her out of my life, but how can I? She’s my husband’s mum and kids’ grandma.
