I was caught stealing from my old job now I fear being arrested | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: I WAS sacked from my last job after being caught stealing from the till.

It was a stupid thing to do but I couldn’t see another way to get out of debt.

I took £1,500 in total and was ordered to pay it back at my disciplinary hearing.

But that’s impossible, as I have no spare cash and am struggling to stay afloat. I’m male and 28.

Now my old work has handed over the evidence to the police and has told me I’m likely to be arrested any day.

I’m having regular anxiety attacks and every knock at my front door sends me into a proper panic.

No one knows what is really going on – not my new place of work, my family or my friends.

I don’t know how to get a handle on any of this.

Think of which relative you trust the most and talk to them.

You will immediately feel better by simply getting the words out in the open.

Once they help you with a plan, get back in touch with your former employer, tell them how sorry you are and present them with your repayment schedule.

They may agree not to press charges.
