I won £300k on National Lottery scratch card – I had only popped into the shop for bread and milk | The Sun

A WOMEN has scooped £300k on the lottery after only popping to her local shop to pick up bread and milk.

Karen Parkin, 51, of Nottingham, who gave up her job as a delivery driver after suffering from arthritis of the spine, said taking home the top prize on a £3 scratchcard will make life “less stressful”.

While standing in the queue at Sonia Stores in Basford, Karen remembered a previous visit where she'd watched a woman win £50,000 on a scratch card.

Inspired by the jackpot, she decided to treat herself to two Cosmic Cash games.

She waited until she got home to scratch the panels off one of the cards and discovered she had won the £300,000 top prize.

Recounting the events, Karen described how she put the kettle on and sat down in the kitchen with a coffee before watching The Chase.

"I scratched the first one and saw that I'd won and just sat there. I can't even remember if I scratched the second one, it's all a bit of a blur.

"I remember calling my friend Tony and asking him to pop round to help me check it. He said it looked like I was a winner, so I called the National Lottery line to claim.”

After delivering the “incredible news” to her sister and mum, Karen celebrated with a small glass of wine before hiding the winning scratchcard in tea towels.

“It's safe to say I didn't sleep a wink that night."

The stunned winner has already splashed out on a brand new VW campervan and plans to take her mum on holidays to Egypt and the Maldives.

She will also use the cash to tick off items on her bucket list and hopes to buy a house for herself and her two Bull Mastiff pets, Elvis and Vogue.

"I still can't believe it's happened to me; I normally get all the bad luck. If something bad is going to happen to someone then it's always me.”

Just last week, Karen “couldn’t justify” buying a new hosepipe for £48 after finding a leak in hers, but has now been out and bought one for £52.

"I am constantly thinking about how to pay for things, putting £20 of fuel in the car rather than filling it up.
