I worry my fiancé will find out I had sex with a friend before our wedding

DEAR DEIDRE: I SLEPT with an old school friend and now I think I need to call off my wedding. Even if I don’t come clean, there is a good chance my fiancé will find out and end it.

I’m 28, my fiancé is 31 and we are due to get married in eight months’ time. This mate is 28, like me.

How can I walk down the aisle in front of all our friends and family when I’m petrified someone could drop a bombshell at any point?

My mate has always made it clear he fancies me and jokes that I’m marrying the wrong guy.

My fiancé — unsurprisingly — can’t stand him and has banned him from our wedding.

My school friend is good-looking, popular and has a great job but I’ve never fancied him, perhaps because he seems so desperate to get together with me.

Our friendship group went out last week for another friend’s birthday and it got messy.

I definitely had one too many and my friend jumped at the opportunity of walking me home.

Once we were outside, he persuaded me to stop at his, saying it was much nearer. I agreed, desperate to get somewhere quickly where I could collapse.

We’d had such a fun night together, it felt totally natural when he started kissing me and I’m ashamed to say I responded.

We ended up having fast and furious sex in his hallway.

The next morning when I woke up, I felt absolutely awful, physically and emotionally.

Even though my friend promised he wouldn’t tell anyone, I know him too well. He is such a show-off and won’t be able to resist boasting.

DEIDRE SAYS: It does sound like your fiancé is likely to find out one way or another, so it would be far better if he heard the news from you.

As uncomfortable as it will be, if you are honest with him, you can explain how much you regret your fling and highlight that you didn’t initiate things.

Apologise to your boyfriend, then apologise again. If there is any hope for your relationship you will need to prove to him how much you regret your one-night stand.

Also, have a think about why you might have strayed. Have you become too comfortable in this relationship?
