DEAR DEIDRE: I THINK my boyfriend of two years might be controlling. He’s 28, I’m 27. We never argue and he is affectionate.
But there are red flags, like extreme jealousy if I even glance at another man or mention a singer is good-looking.
Sometimes I feel scared of him, even though he’s never hurt or threatened me.
If I say something he doesn’t like, he goes into a dark mood and ignores me.
He has started to suggest which friends I should distance myself from when restrictions are released. I think I want to leave him.
Is it stupid to throw away a loving relationship because of a gut feeling?

DEIDRE SAYS: If your boyfriend is showing signs of being controlling, then perhaps this relationship isn’t right for you.
Not all abusive men are violent or threatening – control can be subtle.
Women’s Aid (womensaid.org.uk) has a questionnaire that shows if you’re in an equal relationship. My support pack Abusive Partner will show you where to go for support.
