The Traitors is a game show unlike any other. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the show, whose fans are convinced they 'know who wins' after plot twist, has a large cash prize on offer if the competitors successfully find out who is behind the murders. The Traitors get to “murder” one person a night to reduce the competition and the group can eliminate one person a day, however if they are unable to figure it out by the end of the series, the remaining Traitors will take the money for themselves.
Fay, 59, is one of the contestants who really wished to be a traitor. Talking to the BBC she revealed: “The concept of being a Traitor, what a title. I've always been faithful, so to put myself in a situation now where for the first time in my life I might have to be something quite ruthless and different, that's exciting. Honestly, I can't contain myself!”
Fay is a head of school welfare from Suffolk, having worked at the same establishment for 29 years. Coming to the end of her career she decided to apply to the game show as she wanted to know if she can “do anything else”.
She continued: "I've been doing this job for nearly 30 years, half my life. I play national league basketball too so aside from work and my sports, what can I do next? What am I going to do with all the knowledge that I've put together over the years? Am I the sort of person that can go out there and do something different? That's the motivation for me."
As well as playing national league basketball, during her career Fay also worked with the 2012 Australian Olympic team. In a post on Instagram she wrote: “9 years ago today I was living the dream and hanging out with the most decorative ballers in the world!!! I was very fortunate to be assigned to the @ausbasketball team and they came away with a medal. Wishing Australia basketball the best for #tokyo2020”
Talking about her career, Fay explained: “You have to have a bit of integrity, working with those high-level professionals, but because I was a basketball player you have to have a poker face. When you’re out there, whether you're winning or losing, your opposition cannot know what you’re thinking.”
She has also shared her love of basketball in various other posts on her Instagram, writing in a tribute post to the late Kobe Bryant: “Basketball has shaped me as a person and given me such wonderful opportunities.”
Fay’s love of sport doesn’t stop at basketball as In 2018 she also featured on ‘The Football Show’ with Yahoo Sports, expressing her long-standing love for Liverpool FC. She has also had appearances on BBC Radio Suffolk.
As for winning the show's prize money, Fay said: “I don't even know how much the prize money is! I’d go on a wonderful holiday.”
