Is Homebase open during lockdown?

Simon Rimmer says ‘every day feels the same’ in lockdown

Lockdown was reintroduced into the UK at the beginning of January in what is the country’s third round of shutdowns. Under the rules, all non-essential shops have been forced to close their doors, along with hospitality and a number of other sectors. The vaccination programme is underway in the UK, bringing hopes the end of the lockdown will soon be here. But until then, Brits will have to stay at home.

DIY has proved a saving grace for the people of the UK who haven’t had much else to do during the lockdown.

According to a study by Aviva surveying more than 2,000 UK residents, 85 percent of UK residents have undertaken home improvement activities during lockdown.

Decluttering proved the most popular task, which was carried out by more than half (56 percent) of the population.

A previous Aviva study found seven in 10 homeowners ignored problems in their property, but with more time at home, 21 percent of households have tackled their issues.

Is Homebase open during lockdown?

Homebase is still open during the lockdown, which means customers can go and browse for essential items in store.

The retailer has been classed as necessary due to them selling a number of items for household use and DIY purposes.

Homebase confirmed the news in a statement, saying all of its stores across the UK and Ireland would be staying open for the foreseeable future.

Homebase said: “As an essential retailer, all our Homebase stores will remain open across the UK and Ireland, providing essential products and services for people to ensure their homes are safe and comfortable.

“We are also offering virtual design consultations for those looking to create their dream kitchen or bathroom.

“The safety of our teams and customers remains our highest priority.

“We continue to follow the Government’s latest guidance to ensure that every precaution is taken so that shopping is safe for everyone.

“We advise customers to visit our website in the first instance, before making a trip to the store, where there is also an opportunity to utilise our Click & Collect service.”

The statement added: “Our store teams continue to work extremely hard under these challenging circumstances.”

CEO Damien McGloughlin said: “Once more, I would like to extend a huge thank you to our team for their ongoing commitment.

“And to our customers, for the important part they play in helping us to create a safe and enjoyable shopping experience.

“Our teams are here to support you, please do the same for them. Let’s keep each other safe.”

Despite all Homebase stores staying open to customers, operating hours will inevitably vary from store to store.

To avoid disappointment, you can check your local store’s details here using the Homebase store locator.

In addition, if you can click and collect, you’re advised to do this in an effort to avoid contact with other people.

While in store, make sure to wear a face mask or covering and adhere to social distancing rules while shopping.
